Happiness Is...

Happiness is the contentment joy from elation pleasure…

Happiness is the puzzle piece in the paradox mystery of life's picture; like our will in the Rubic’s Cube of our emotion's desire to be what ever it is we have the will for it to be...

Happiness enters our lives now and again in doses of varying measure... It is a moment’s pleasure that has various durations as a residue effect when we will our delights...

To tally up one's life happiness experience in terms of satisfaction pleasures is without doubt a perplexing affair of balanced measure... How does one account for all that will function as happiness experiences in one's life? Quite a dilemma at the very least this measure... "On what day do we assess our happiness and in which ways is it defined in pleasures measured? "

(Here is a story taken from an account of ancient philosophy excerpted from, The Life of the Mind, by Hannah Arendt, section III: What Makes Us Think, The Roman Answer...)

Herodotus tells a story of Solon, who, having framed the laws of Athens, set out upon ten years of travel, partly for political reasons. He arrived at Sardis, where Croesus was at the height of his power.

Croesus, after having shown Solon all of his riches, addressed him with: "Stranger great word has come to us about you, your wisdom and your wandering about visiting many lands of the earth philosophizing with respect to the spectacles you have seen. It has occurred to me to ask you if you had seen one that you consider to be the happiest of all."

Croesus was expecting to hear that he Croesus was the happiest man on earth by Solon's standards... Solon answers Croesus with, a philosophoumenon, a reflection on human affairs, he based his response on the length of life - in which not "one day is like the other, so that, "the whole of human life is but a chance”, no man, no matter how lucky he is can be happy before his death... "

Such is the condition of life, it is not a complete story until the last of it is said and related to the content of the whole event from beginning to end... Only at death when the life story is complete can it be judged, for as death not merely ends life, it bestows on it a silent completeness, snatched from the hazardous flux to which all things human are subject... This is the gist of what later became the proverbial topos throughout Greek and Latin antiquity - nemo ante mortem beatus dici potest....

Herodotus is recorder as saying: "Most hard it is to perceive the hidden measures of judgment which nevertheless (even thought it does not appear) holds the limits of all things..." { Here I must interject, "he is saying, thought is only limited by our limited use of thought applied when searching our desire, emotion, and will for judgment decisions..."}

Solon like Socrates wants to bring philosophy down from the sky to the earth and begin the measure of human affairs... Both Solon and Socrates both raised the question of measure for courage, piety, friendship, knowledge, justice, and so on, for these are the basis for judging ones happiness...

(Arendt goes at length in describing how the ancients and modern society remain perplex and have no resolution for measure of the human virtues: courage, piety, friendship, knowledge, justice, and so on...)

Here is where I say simply, "The measure for human virtue is: inclusive selfless civility intended to satisfy the happiness of the All"...

  • Virtue is dignity decency in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Honor is noble respectability in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Worth is wealth value in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Goodness is purity equity in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Integrity is moral ethics in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Affection is friendship respect in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Piety is devout reverence in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Law is logic justification in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Courage is brave valor in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Reason is choice decision in terms of inclusive selfless civility
  • Cognition is a mind awareness in terms of inclusive selfless civility

You see these axioms, algorithms and rules are the ways (beginning) and means (source) to reckon the end (origin) of happiness in your lifetime...

So in the scheme of things accrued happiness is a function of many variables that formulate the final analysis of the happiness condition... It takes a lifetime of experience to determine the quality of the happiness one might accrue collect and accumulate...

Food for thought - "Happiness is as happiness does..."

You see, joy is the emotion of a desired delight when we will happiness; that's why people are perplexed with happiness... Seeking happiness does not derive it without the emotional power of joy and the force of delight to strengthen the will... This is why happiness is hard to derive, for without joy and delight in what one does, there is nothing much to create it...

A popular tout to combat the fear and pretend happiness of exclusive behavior is to seek the negative aspect of a false happiness, that is to say," Happiness is a warm gun," a function of destruction, a tool of deception, a means to our own demise, by focusing on our selfish desires for our exclusive purpose; why is this?" Why does humanity seek to explore a solitary path to an existence that is composed of all of humanity... To step on the heads of another to gain success is not of service to anyone to include the abuser... In the end, ones karma is the only form of happiness that will evolve the self into the matrix of existence...

It is surely a Paradox if happiness cannot be a common thread found in our selfless-will; where all share in a meaningful existence goal with beneficial intent without taking away from the quality of some other life experience... The world of humans has a ways to go to realize happiness, one might use the measures in the formulas provided above as a recipe for manifesting happiness in a meaningful way to evolve the best karma for our humanity...

Happiness is challenged by the cross the human condition bears, a condition cut and fashioned from the cloth made by the human spirit's design... Each soul of self shares the burden of any self-imposed cross; it is imperative to create equilibrium of balanced equity... The management of the burden is humanities' responsibility... World governance of a self-ruling democracy is a means that will end in the fruition of humanities' karmic happiness...

The quest for happiness is a lifetime campaign ~ HAPPINESS IS ONLY FOUND IN ~ the aspiration, the hope, and the ambition to achieve inclusive civil selflessness in a humanity, so to forever have harmony, balance and unity.

At the end of life's story the quality of ones behavior defines ones happiness ~ "Nemo ante mortem beatus dici potest....("Before his passing, no one can be called happy." )"

Happy Birthday, Mom
