Texas Legal Insurance Covers the Cost of Hiring an Attorney
If you have ever hired an attorney you know that is often quite costly. So much so, that many people either ignore their legal problems or attempt to resolve their problems without the help of a lawyer. This can have devastating consequences. Luckily, the State Bar of Texas offers a legal benefits insurance plan called The Texas Legal Protection Plan (TLLP). It is the only insurance plan created and endorsed by the State Bar of Texas.
The plan works much like medical insurance in that policyholders in need of legal services can seek representation from within a network of 900 attorneys. Rather than pay an attorney for providing services, the member simply pays a low monthly fee (about $25 per month) or a one-time discounted annual premium. When legal services are rendered, TLLP is billed rather than the client. The only time a member directly pays an attorney for service is if the attorney is out-of-network. However, TLLP will reimburse the person for the cost of the out-of-network legal services.
Membership comes with a wide range of benefits including coverage of one case per year within each of the 14 areas of law that TLPP offers. This means that members are covered in up to fourteen cases per year, each within a different area of the law. Members are also given up to 4 hours of preventative legal services such as for estate planning or document preparation.
The plan is available to all Texans—as an employee plan or individual plan. Spouses and children (up to the age of 25) are also eligible to enroll. TLPP does not run credit checks on its members and the plan strictly adheres to maintaining the attorney-client privilege. it is important to note that the quality of services provided is no way inferior to services rendered to regular cash-paying clients. In fact, some of the state's best attorneys are part of the statewide network. Members basically get the same legal help without having to pay the attorneys' fees.
