Great article. I have a 12 year old son who seems to have one of those sieve brains, you know, one of those things that you sift plant soil through. Once the good stuff is run through, all that is left in the sieve are large clumps of cow dung. I will check into this. Thanks for following me. I hope I can write enough interesting articles that keep you and, hopefully, many more coming back for more.

Good advice. Also, Kahn Academy has over 2,000 teaching videos on YouTube. All of them are in the same ten minute format (for those of us with short attention span). I've used it in my teaching. Give it a try.

Amen! I am a math methods professor.

Anything that will help kids is worth a try.

My own son has a writing dysfunction. We use a blog so that he can compose, edit and create. Who cares? Skills are skills are skills.

Thanks Marshella for the additional advise on tutoring our kids. I totally agree that free online tutoring is the way to help all kids who really need the help. There are probably many to choose from.

As a parent, I always try to motivate my daughter by all means. However, with motivation knowledge and skills are also required to do well. If your ward loves music, let him practice it. Our present education system does not always provide the challenges that (India and china provide to their students) can bring out the best from a student. Every American student has the capability to complete their school and hold postsecondary degrees. They have the expertise and talent; online tutoring services like tutorteddy.com helps to bring that out by providing them all essential helps at the most reasonable cost. Some of them offer online math scholarship program to help deserving underprivileged American students learning math at free of cost. There are many students in our country, who can’t continue with their studies due to lack of proper guidance and poor financial background. They can take advantage of online tutoring services.
