The Perfect Spring Day

GOTTA HAVE AN UMBRELLA TO STAY DRY!

What Does It Look Like?

It is April and winter is trying to hang on in many parts of the country, however Texas is in full bloom with bluebonnets and various wildflowers scattered along its roadways. Our temperatures are mild, cool at night and breezy and warm during the day. Oak pollen covers every available surface in Central Texas shaken from its resting place by brisk breezes. Some of those breezes have been stirred from cold fronts crawling southward. Other winds have blown in from the Gulf with humidity attached.

Last Spring, the Texas Hill Country was in the second year of a drought. There were very few rainy days in Central and South Texas. A rainy day was a treasure, a rest from the constant sun. Though the moisture had little effect on the land, it was a pause in the relentless dry weather.

I used to think that my favorite Spring day was a warm sunny one - balmy breezes and sun that soaked to your bones. My opinion has changed. With eyes red from pollen irritation and sneezes that come suddenly in the spring breezes, I have become a fan of drizzly or rainy spring days. With the rain, the tree and flower pollen is washed away and the air becomes clean and breathable again.

I don't want every day to be rainy. A few days of Spring sunshine and then some rain is perfect. The newly planted flowers are watered. The bluebonnets and wildflowers are encouraged to stay around a little longer. The local lake is full and needs to stay that way. The last few days of sunshine and wind have dried out the ground. Most of all, let's not forget those wonderful smells right before a rain!

It looks like rain today. It's a great time to get some things done around the house and relish the relief it brings to the area! My umbrella is waiting for me! Let it rain!

Thanks Pamela. On the weather map, it seems the central part of the country is getting the rain!

I was happy to see the sun after such a cloudy winter for this area of the country. I have planted some flowers and now I'm wondering when is it going to rain? I am feeling just like you stated in your hub. Good hub!

4youreyes, Texas is gorgeous in the Spring. We have highways lined with wildflowers to enjoy. The bluebonnets are exceptional this year! It is raining today, so the pollen will be better. Thanks for your comment!

I love a cloudy rainy day. Somehow it relaxes me more than a hot sunny one.

We are having some nice, slow soaking rains in San Antonio. I like it and my garden likes it. Of course, this will slow the pollen down some also. My plants and grass are going to enjoy the rain. The garden is smiling. I think I may be just like you. I used to think a perfect spring day was sunny and 75 degrees with a gentle breeze blowing. But now I can fit some rain days in there as well. Thanks for another great hub!!
