The True Paradigm, the Quest; Is Introspection a Hypothetical Construct?

I wrote this poem while studying a course in Psychology back in 1994-95, and first “broadcast” (published) it last year in 2010. It speaks of my perception of the human psyche; and a prudent objective, I think, is to understand oneself and others in an altruistic, humble way - while grappling with one’s own will - to prudently harness one’s carnal desires, in preference of a more intelligent, introspective consideration - in spite of the challenge.

Later, studying some related elected courses in my Mechanical Engineering program, I gained a better understanding of the definitive links in the fields of Psychiatry, Psychology, Humanities, and Social Psychology. I might also add, these fields have parallels with Philosophy and Theology, and definite links with History, if even just our own.

The “Hypothetical Construct” I mention in my poem represents a tool to utilize in the preponderance of thought and imagery our minds can generate and be subject to, either in a transient way, or as thoughts we adopt as our own.

The “rod” mentioned is “the iron rod” spoken of in the Book of Mormon, revealed to represent the Word of God, so the Iron rod is the Word of God:

1 Nephi 11:25 "And it came to pass that I beheld that the rod of iron, which my father had seen, was the word of God, which led to the fountain of living waters, or to the tree of life; which waters are a representation of the love of God; and I also beheld that the tree of life was a representation of the love of God."

The last line of my poem is a reference to the true and original Masons, and their subtle yet noble adoption of the tenet which describes a way of dealing honestly, without yielding borders (in my unassociated view). And I am being “On the Level.”

I hope you enjoy this poem and revisit its message, for it is indeed therapeutic.

The tugging of the conscience, the struggling of the soul

The harrowing steps on lattice, while evading mortal’s toll

Can only effect plunder, to people lauding it

Persona great will blunder — for fate we can’t outwit

One’s thoughts are like a garden, which needs good seedlings grown

For the heart will produce guerdon, when the soil is rid of stone

Let efforts never cease — and vigilance befriend!

So the profits and the wreath, can be your own Godsend

But still, we often wander, from our toiled turf

And sometimes even ponder, The Heights of Untamed Surf!

This is our Obsession — To Proliferate our Might!

Until, we all but lose, the paradoxal fight

What we must subdue, is our primeval lust

Our battle must be true, to transcend the feigning crust

Into what we might perceive, as quite implausible

Until our muse conceives, unconsciousness and soul

So, be wary in the dark, and learn to hold the rod

For pretentious is the hark, that distracts your forthright trod

The journey is inside of us; the challenge, from within

A hypothetical construct — If We Can But Grasp, might win.

For those without a conscience, are merely misplaced souls

Never adopting penitence, that is believable

But, Can We see inside, their deluded paradigm

If we do not abide, by our own true assign?

So don’t Edge God Out with Ego

Rather harness with your reins

The old pernicious spirit

Which stymies all your gains

Then who will bait and switch

The snares of all false pitch

When our hearts mete proper measure

Of True furnishments we treasure?

So Onward, Quest for Truth

To understand as well

For the Mysteries at Loose

We must Level and dispel …

These are Signs of Awakening ... Your Soul's struggling, to free itself of Fallacies ...

But its important to be firmly "anchored" before you proceed on a Voyage ... The Ocean of Information, can easily tear apart the fabric of Sanity ...

Be Anchored ... In, Truth ... before you raise the Sails.

Thank you for your great and wise comment, Shahid Bukhari , and you are right, it was a great awakening.

Let me now take this opportune moment to tell of a story (or lesson) about a great big ship sailing in the foggy night of a stormy season.

This large ship received a signal from a distant light to change its course.

The big ship signalled back to the light up ahead, for it to yield to them, and they had no plan to consider changing its course, especially to a distant vessel.

The now closer light then signalled back for the big ship again to change its course, for its own safety.

Of course, the large ship could see no reason to yield, so it relayed back that it would continue, and that they should yield to them.

Now much closer, the light signalled the large ship once again, saying that it was in danger if it did not change its course.

The ship then declared again they would not, and again demanded the other to yield for it.

Finally, the initial light signalled back in a powerful way: It was a LIGHTHOUSE!
