Montreat College: Three Reasons to Consider Attending a Beautiful NC Campus

Think about Montreat

If you or someone you know is looking to start college, either as a professional adult or as recent high school grad, Montreat College should be considered. Montreat is small Christian liberal-arts college located in the mountains of western North Carolina, not far from Asheville, NC. While Montreat’s traditional program is based out of the main campus in Montreat, NC, there are seven different locations for their school of Adult and Professional Studies. Their professional program offers associates, bachelors, and masters degrees such as an MBA or a masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, for example. In a typical school year, there are roughly 450 students enrolled in the traditional program and another 500-700 enrolled in the professional program. Montreat offers a variety of degrees and programs. The “Academics” page on their website describes all the different programs and degree offering available. Montreat is regarded as a special place by nearly everyone who goes there, but are three things that set Montreat apart.

Why Come to Montreat? The Top Three Reasons

First, Montreat is Christian school that is Christ-Centered and strives to be a place that equips students to be positive examples and leaders in society, the workplace, and the home. Nearly all of the faculty and staff seek to integrate faith and learning in the classroom and the campus environment. Chapel services are held every Thursday and educational convocations with a time of worship are held on Tuesdays. The Chaplin’s Office and the Department of Service at Montreat help guide and counsel students. They give students opportunities to serve in the local community and around the world in service projects and international mission trips. However, the faith at Montreat goes beyond planned activities, events, and chapel services. Bible studies in the dorms, conversations at the cafeteria, and one-on-one mentoring are just a few of the ways faith at Montreat is expressed on a daily basis. Montreat College is an excellent place to grow spiritually and draw closer to God.

Secondly, Montreat is one of the most geographically beautiful areas of the country. Nestled in the Blue Ridge and Black Mountains of North Carolina, Montreat students wake up every morning to a breath-taking view of the Montreat cove and the surrounding mountains. A trip of roughly 20 minutes will get students to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the town of Montreat boasts numerous hiking trails. In addition to the natural beauty, Montreat’s stone buildings provide the perfect architectural setting for a small private college.

Finally, Montreat is a small school where every student is known by name. The average class size is roughly 15 students, so every student has an opportunity to participate. The faculty at Montreat truly care about their students and desire to help them learn and grow. Students have the opportunity to meet with their professors one-on-one if they have questions or want to discuss material learned in class. The residence life staff do their best to create a “home away from home” for all their residents living in the dorms. There are a lot of opportunities for students to get “plugged-in” to campus activities, events, social groups, and student clubs where they can develop relationships and grow lifelong friendships.

In addition to all this, Montreat has a great athletics program and is a member of the NAIA. More information for the college and the opportunity to apply can be found at the school’s website: www.montreat.edu.
