Apparently, the United Nations appointed an Ambassador to deal with any visiting aliens.

Suppossedly, the Sunday Times reported that this has caused a lot of controversy, both around the world and within the United Nations itself.

Mazlon Othman, Head of The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs was appointed to be the official channel for first contact with an alien race.

It has been speculated, that this could be a prelude to an announcement that contact has already been made. There are those that think Governments have been keeping secret, previous visits by aliens. The stories of Area 51 and others. Recently, there seems to of been an increase in the number of reported UFO sightings and of course there is currently, a lot of hype with the Maya 2012 predictions.

I do not know if this appointment is true or not. If it is, then it is about time. If it isn't, then it should be rectified immediately.

If we haven't already been visited by aliens, there is surely a possibility that we could be in the future. We should at least be constructing a unified course of action to be taken in such an event. At first contact, we will of course have the question of language, how to communicate with the aliens. There is also the possibilities as to whether they are hostile or friendly. We must also consider any new technologies that we may learn from them. Even if they have been watching us from afar, I doubt that they would hold any strong Earthly, political views. This means that, if, they wished to reveal any new technologies to us, it would probably be intended for all the world to share, not just the country on which they landed. Therefore the United Nations is the correct institution to appoint an Ambassador on our planets behalf.

The first job that the UN Ambassador should do is, after consulting with countries governments, declare these alien stories as true or false. That way people can concentrate on any real issues that there may be and not have to waste time on trying to prove or disprove, what may or may not be.
