Webquests as Teaching Tools

There are several excellent webquests about the environment featured here. They are for third grade up to seventh or eighth grade level.

Webquests are online interactive teaching activities. Webquests are excellent educational tools. Students use webquests by finding information online about a specific subject. They do this by following the included links on the webquest. The links may include assignments, games, or quizzes.

I am a huge fan of webquests. I homeschooled my children and they participated in many webquests on virtually every subject. Well, probably every subject, even including math. Here is a listing of some excellent webquests that teach about the environment or related topics.

This environmental webquest covers 5 areas related to the environment: endangered species, population growth, pollution, climate change, and recycling. Students look up and read online articles, take quizzes, read graphs, finish worksheets, and learn vocabulary words.

Recycling

This webquest centers around information at the Environmental Protection Agency website. Students learn about recycling.

After completing the environmental webquest, students will have played an online game about the environment, learned recycling terms, developed and completed a survey about recycling, completed a worksheet, and created a poster about the environment.

Amazon Rainforest

This environment webquest is for the third grade. It teaches about the Amazon Rainforest.

Students will be instructed to create their own TV show by following the instructions in the links. They will learn about four animals from the rainforest and about the importance of rainforest preservation.

Antarctica

This environmental webquest is suitable for grades 4-6. It teaches about Antarctica's ecosystem.

The emphasis is on the Antarctic Treaty and also the impact Antarctica can have on Australia.

Mojave Desert

Also suitable for 4th through 6th grades, this webquest about the environment focuses on the Mojave Desert.

Learn about the characteristics of the desert and how deserts are formed.

Raven King, Generally the webquests that I have actually searched for have been aimed at kids. If I find any ones interesting or challenging enough for adults, I will try and let you know.

Thanks, Angela, for the webquests info. I am doing a day camp on the farm and we'll be talking about ways kids can help take care of the environment. I have bookmarked these for further reading.

Webquests are a good methodology for kids they learn having fun on the web moreover kids loose interest very fast but webquests keep their interest in a particular topic while giving in depth information.

Environment, agreed. My kids really enjoyed webquests, even with subjects that they generally didn't like. And they retained what they learned.
