When the Tsunami Back to Home During the Earthquake in Japan.

Updated on March 7, 2014

I heard sad news yesterday. When I was watching my television there was shocking news. Earthquake and tsunami hits Japan. An earthquake with 8.9 magnitude was struck northeastern Japan. This incident happened on 14:46 local time. Epicenter estimated 130 east of Sendai and Fukushima with depth of 24 km. Both of these cities located in Honshu Island. The earthquake triggers tsunami with a height of about 10 meters. From my television I can saw how nature really angry. Tsunami in Japan has caused many victims and big damage. Until today the death victims reach thousands. The number of victims is still growing.

NHK television showed flames and black smoke billowing from a building in Odaiba, Tokyo suburb, and fast trains in the north of the country stopped. This tsunami swept hundreds of ships, cars, buildings and even humans. Black smoke appeared from the industrial park in Yokohama. My television showed boat, car and truck floating in the water after the tsunami hit the town in northern Japan, Kamaichi.

Look at the picture, where the wealth useless in god’s eyes. Everything destroyed within a minutes.

In Sendai, a number of boats that dragged the tsunami hit the flyover. The cars seemed upside down. Water in large volumes also covered Sendai airport. Airport runways filled with dozens of cars, trucks, buses that floated and thick mud carried by the tsunami waves. The number of houses around the airport is also on fire, probably due to gas pipeline that exploded caused by the earthquake. How about Tokyo as the capital city of Japan? In addition to serious damage, some areas in Tokyo also flooded and dead lights. Seven areas in Tokyo which felt vibration and damage caused by the earthquake are Gunma, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo and Kanagawa. Tokyo Disneyland also flooded, the recent news said the flood already as high as the roof of the house. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said the tsunami also affect area in Russia, the west coast of the United States, Canada, Alaska, Indonesia, Australia and northern Marianas.

Should we arrogant? I don’t think so!

Tsunami back to home

From the title, I want to describe about tsunami. Where is the tsunami words came from? Tsunmai came from Japanese language. Tsu means harbor and Nami means waves. The combining between two words means a big wave in harbor. The tsunami was the arrival of the high sea waves and large to the seaside after an earthquake, volcanic eruptions and landslides on the seabed and the impact of meteorites. This term originally created by Japanese fishermen when they return to harbor and they find the area around the coast that was hit by high waves and large. When the wave approached the shore, the height of waves always increases while its speed decreases. That’s why I choose this title, because it came from Japanese words so the tsunami try to find the way to go home.

Tsunami mechanism

Tsunami caused by shifting tectonic plates vertically below the seafloor in the source or epicenter off the coast. Changes abruptly from the sea floor during the earthquake followed by changes in ocean water mass and followed by changes in sea surface elevation that can cause a wave of sea water which is very long (can reach 800 km) with a very long period waves (can reach 60 minutes). The wave is moving with high speed (can reach 800 km / h) in direction perpendicular to the plane of subduction shift on the seabed. The tsunami may have refraction, so that in its movement toward the beach can turn into very high waves. From the epicenter in the middle of the ocean, the tsunami moves with the speed from 800 to 1000 km per hour, equivalent to the speed of the aircraft. But as it approached the beach the tsunami velocity decreases but the height increases. But after sweeping the beach for several kilometers, tsunami waves turn back to sea. Not everything that happened off the coast can cause a tsunami, because it depend on the size of the magnitude and epicenter of earthquake.

Nuclear radiation haunted Japanese people

Due to big shocks caused by earthquake also affect the nuclear power generating facility in Fukushima. This area is near Sendai. Tohoku Electric Power Co. also suspended operations in Onagawa nuclear power plant. The company is also closing seven reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi and Daini. Japanese government imposed a state of emergency for a nuclear facility. But until today there has been no report of leakage of nuclear radiation which is very dangerous for human life and other creatures. "This action is an emergency precautionary steps because there is a mechanical failure at the facility, to prevent bad things happen", said Yukio Edano as Chairman of the Japanese cabinet secretary. Although leakage wasn’t found until now, but without electricity the possibility of radiation could come at any time. The government also evacuated thousands of people to stay away from this area. The latest news, I heard that 160 people positively affected by nuclear radiation. I think this is terrible news. But, I hope the best for Japanese people and everything goes well.

Mysterious whirlpool in the middle of the sea

There’s mysterious thing happen during this incident. A vortex was formed after the tsunami that hit northern Japan, yesterday. The tsunami has created a huge whirlpool. According to the researchers, whirlpool unusual happened after the tsunami waves. “Vortex may occur after a major tsunami”, said Ruth Ludwin a retired seismologist from University of Washington. This is based on eyewitness testimony and the video a few years. "Whirlpools has big impact on the human imagination, very scary," said Ludwin was quoted as saying by LiveScience. He also explained that whirlpool was created because there was an interaction of swift water currents and geology of the coastline and seabed. Impact of tsunami in coastal waters caused a very intense turbulent motion. And with a certain depth, a whirlpool can be formed.

I hope by reading this hub we can increase our spirituality. Anything can be happened to us, without any warning. From Japanese earthquake is good example for us that God control everything. What do we have like a big house, luxurious car, beautiful garden, a lot of money can be destroyed easily by God within in a minutes. At least we can pray for Japanese people and we all avoided from any disaster. Praying is a great weapon for us in facing everything. No one can help us except god…amen. “Man supposes while God disposes”
