Great point. But in all fairness to the medical professionals, they aren't the ones who asked for a MRI of a patient in Pennsylvania to be read by a doctor in Australia because it's the middle-of-the-night at the PA hospital. It's the hospital administration that has taken these cost-cutting measures. And why take these steps? Because the insurance companies (who never seem to have trouble making a profit) pay hospitals on a sliding scale, based on how quickly they get patient from point A. to Point "O" which stands for "Out the door."
Unfortunately this isn't a quick fix and politicians don't want to take on the insurance companies...it would be like asking them to go after the tobacco companies.
