   What is a trait of an ideal teacher?
   
   Please let me know what I can do to become a great teacher. Think about those amazing teachers you have had in the past and please let me know what I can do to emulate them.

   If I had to choose one and also avoid being overly vague, I'd say patience.  Nobody likes to have a time limit put on their learning, and patience also will allow the teacher to present learning objectives in alternate ways if the first attempt didn't work out.  If you get the feeling that a teacher is willing to stick with you through the end regardless of how long it takes to make sure that you understand the material, the sense of trust that that fosters can be indispensable to 'real' learning.  Smiling also helps

   Ok, im a student....i would like to add my say to this..
   
   When i was on 6th grade, my teacher ...he's gay but  highly intelligent, strict about the rules, disciplinarian, a coach attitude,Super Frank! everything...that a student could hate for...
   
   Every student is scared of him..
   
   And i hate him too...a lot. 
   he's the only teacher that made me cry in front beside the black board.
   He's the only teacher who keep's me awake all night until 5am without sleep...! i failed to do it the other day....so i answered all the "test yourself questions" in one whole book!
   
   Because everyone who fails to pass it in due time....will face..more likely like a death sentence..in the morning...
   
   But i don't know how he did it but...he's the reason why our school made the top rank among the best private schools.
   
   Our contestants trained by him, won every competition. Beating all the private schools.
   
   He is a revolutionary. But i didn't realize that until i got mature.....
   
   I remember him saying  to us all the time, "Keep yourself busy!"
   "Don't wait for tomorrow of what you can do for today!"
   
   I also realize that .....He is a born teacher.
   
   He never get tired or never get run out of inspiration....
   He is not just teaching us....theres more to that...
   
   He teach us beyond the basics of elementary....that makes us ahead with other students..
   more notable is, he never get tired of it.
   We were more advanced because of him.
   He made me think rationally and objectively rather than a cry baby.
   
   And above all, i realize that i learned a lot from him. 90% that he teach us...still ingrained in my mind.
   I never knew that he's my most hated teacher, but now he doesn't know...he is my most favorite and memorable teacher.
   
   He could have all the bad ass traits, but he is more dedicated.
   He never tried to impress us....like other teacher.
   In fact he doesn't care if anyone of us hate him...
   As long as he knew what he's doing...

   Plan and be flexible.  I know that sounds like it doesn't go together. Know what you're doing, but be open to inspiration and last minute changes (like the assembly no one told you about.) 
   
   Keep communication open between you, the kids, their parents and the administration.
   
   But the biggest thing you can do is care about the kids. Really care about what they're doing outside of your class.  Build relationships with them, but know where the line is between friend (which you're not) and mentor (which you are.) Share with them and let them know you're human.  Apologize, admit when you're wrong and made a mistake, talk about your frustrations and share stories about your world outside of the classroom.

   someone who is really interested and well-versed in their subject matter...and someone who is patient and willing to help all of their students...the one's who "get it" right away and the ones who need more help.  someone who gets you excited about learning.

   Some one who cares!  Cares enough to ask questions. - How do these students learn? What interests these students?  What are the students' goals / aspirations?  What resource materials will best suit each student? How can I make classes meaningful?  How can I make classes fun? How...
   
   The list goes on, but it comes back to caring enough about students and yourself, to ask the hard and relevant questions.

   The ideal teacher will believe that it is possible for some students to become far better at the subject than they are. Some teachers would love that and won't be jealous but amazed that they were part of the process while other teachers don't want their students to overtake them.

    A quick little test:  Every ideal teacher I've known will invariably answer the following question in the same way:
    Q.  "When did you know you wanted to become a teacher?" 
    A,   "I always KNEW I wanted to be a teacher."
