Is it ok to change schools in the middle of the school year?
if a child is struggling in a school is changing the school going to have a good or bad effect on the child?
I only had to experience this once and it was my youngest. Fortunately, she adjusted without any problems.
It depends on why they are struggling. If it has to do with social issues then yes, changing could help. It gives them a fresh start. But if they are constantly getting into trouble, then most likely they will look for the same types of friends and trouble at a new school. It if is low grades then moving is a terrible idea. They will be trying to play catch up, learn what new teachers expect, and worrying about their social life. Middle school is a really hard time in a teens life, parents just need to be patient and present. Make sure they know you care and you will both make it through.
I have personally been a 'child' that has done this.
I adjusted well no problems.
I think it depends on the child personally. If they are an introvert, it may be harder.
It's tough being young.

Do you think art classes should be offered in elementary/middle schools? Some people feel as if art classes are a waste of tax-payer's money, others feel that they are essential to proper child development, where do you stand?

How do schools in America work?I've always wondered this, I hear about middle school and high school but what ages are they. In the UK we just have primary and secondary, and lets say year 8 in the UK wouldn't be the same age as 8th grade in the US.

Are Schools Setting Students Up To Fail? After being more involved in the school system, in several states, I actually do wonder in many cases if the school system is set up to cause so many to fail. Or at least, feel like failures. I just wondered what thoughts others might have on the topic.

What would you do to fix the educational system in America? This assumes, of course, that the system needs fixing. What would you change about it? What would you terminate? Perhaps we need to look first at what is wrong before answering the question.

The post was inspired by Tessa Schlesinger. She is a great, analytical thinker. She has made some profound statements regarding the state of the post-modern world. Beginning in the 1970s, there was a widening class divide w/ education & jobs becoming more specialized. In the...
