Inside a leaf there are millions of little packages of color in green, yellow and orange.

•The yellow packages are called xanthophylls
•The orange packages are called carotene
Leaves get their green color from chlorophyll. Fall's shorter days and cooler temperatures cause the chlorophyll to move from the leaves to the branches, trunk and roots, and the yellow and orange pigments that are always present become visible. It’s as simple as that!
