How does the Russian Alphabet Work? It looks like a very interesting language to learn!
Hello Matthew,
Thank you for your message.
Russian Alphabet is based on the Greek Alphabet (We had to invent some letters because there were not enough Greek letters for Russian vocabulary).
You will find two links about the Russian Alphabet at http://www.russianinderby.co.uk/
And I just love BBC

It's an interesting language to learn not so much because of the Cyrillic alphabet. In about a month you get quite used to the alphabet. What is more challenging, and interesting, is the grammar, which is very different from Romance languages, such as English. Because Russian uses endings on words to indicate their role in a sentence (e.g., subject, object, etc.), you can pretty much use any word order and the meaning is the same. It's just a lot of work to memorize all the endings for all the cases.
The best way of learning The Russian alphabet is to find similarities with your native language and then learn examples with the letters that are new for you.
As for the grammar, it is vital to learn it in parallel with your own language.

I teach Spanish, and if English is your native language, I think Spanish is not too difficult to learn. Of course, I could be biased.

Should Cursive writing still be taught in school? My 15 year old son can barely sign his name in cursive and does all his writing in print and I find it maddening that kids aren't taught how to write well. His writing is like reading that of an inattentive 5 year old, yet he's extremely bright...

Can a sentence be made by using all the letters in the alphabet? Each letter must be used only once.
