It is all of the paperwork that keeps us from doing what we love - teaching! I became a teacher so that I could work with children, but I am doing less and less of that these days. Testing is the main theme - lots and lots of it. And I am spending countless hours grading all sorts of tests. I am still trying hard to infuse meaningful learning experiences into the daily grind but there is little time. Today I had my students make a list of all of their favorite memories this school year. Here are some of the things they wrote: reading the City of Ember, seeing the movie, having a classroom fashion show (descriptive writing of their clothing), our pet Anoles (lizards), playing multiplication Bingo, our classroom store (using "debit" cards), trip to the math/science center, making friends....I have decided to pursue a different career - because teaching has become testing.
