What is the BIGGEST obstacle to solving World Hunger?
Is it Logistics, Awareness, Indifference, Politics or something else?
The economy.
As with my hub http://hubpages.com/hub/Waste-disposal- … ally-help, we throw away about 25% of the food we buy and supermarkets alone are contributing to the amount of needless waste.
There is enough to go round, but it's uneconomic to distribute it.
Whilst people go hungry, we throw stuff away and in order to maintain prices, so do the supermarkets.
The biggest obstacle to remove hunger lies in the sense of realization of human value even though modern human being thought to be civilized one.
That question has an easy answer. The corporate politics of the four biggest food corporations plus the desire of people in market economies to get everything cheap, cheap, cheap, even when it was grown and harvested with children's blood (like chocolate from Ghana).
Too many people. And too many bleeding-heart do-gooders pleading (sob, sniffle) to feed the starving children (so they can grow up and breed more starving children).
I am not a fan of corporations -- but general human stupidity regarding refusing to implement population control has created the need for the agricorps. You cannot feed 6-1/2 to 7 billion people without factory farming, toxic pesticides, water source pollution, etc.
There is not enough GOOD land and GOOD water to feed everyone from Whole Foods or Trader Joe markets.
The "greenie-weenie" dream of organic backyard vegetable plots (or slum apartment window box gardens) ain't going to do the job.
It's people with power and how we prioritize things. There's no need for anybody to literally starve on this planet, but it happens every day. We're too concerned about our personal issues with life to worry about problems another world away. Corruption is a major problem. Much of the aid sent to starving countries never gets to the people that need it. It's either sold back into the global market or pirated and sold into the black market.
