Always do the operations x and / before doing + and - in the order they appear in. In this example, x comes before the /, so we multiply first and get:

6 - 0 + 2 / 2

Then it's time for the / to get:

6 - 0 + 1 = 7.

This was sent to me on FB and I tried to answer it on the fly. I shared the problem and about 2 weeks later a friend asked, "Well is it one?" Thank you for your Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally process!

BODMAS? I've never heard of that. I was taught BEDMAS, which was an acronym for the order in which mathematical actions are performed in an equation.

The order is:

Brackets

Exponents

Division

Multiplication

Addition

Subtraction

yep! Your first step of subtracting took you off the main course. Remember multiplication and dividion first. 1 x 0 = 0. 2/2 = 1.

MDAS process is applied. My answer is 7 same with your explanation.

BODMAS means bracket of division multiplication, addition, and subtraction.

Thank you jeannie. I show these to my students. It reinforces the thought process behind solving mathematical equation.

Please tell us what the BODMAS is? Thank you!

I'm still waiting for the day that I will actually use:

xy+(4 20)>

x-5y[2+9-7]

in a real life situation.
