If you were to select 100 people to create a new world, how would you choose and why?

There is talk that 100 people will be able to create a community on Mars - the trip is one way.  How should the peope going be selected other than because they have the financial means to apply.

I'm playing a bit Lizam1. I will have to recuse myself. I am a candidate and answering would be a conflict of interest - giggle.

Great question. I honestly have no idea of how to go about that intriguing question.
I think it is an exciting adventure. Having just Googled a bit and a byte I do not understand the one way part. It is only a years travel either way. Is it the fuel that is the concern? And, having enough to get back?

I read also the use of antimatter propulsion would be 250 million a pop, yet only 45 days travel, however it would take 1,000 years to have enough antimatter. Complex. One would think the structure of everything here on earth would have to change for that outcome - economics, value / worth, social, and on and on.

I asked this question to my Ethics class and they came up with a list of professionals.  They also added a few families from different countries.  All thought the need for pastoral care was a high priority, very interesting.  In reality, it will probablly come down to money and position.   Great question!

As we seem not to be able to manage things very well here at the moment my vote is for not sending any of us to go mess up somewhere else - but as you say those with money will be the ones to make it happen so I guess we will transport our squabbles.
