Should nutritional recommendations change once we are over 80 years of age?

A colleague of mine whose Mother is 82 and extremely active started having back problems. The MRI revealed problems also with her kidneys. When she spoke to a friend who was a nutritionist, she recommended less fresh fruit high in acid. Her pain is now manageable but this leads me to question if we have the right recommendations and supporting research for nutrition for our aging population.
