To all Black women out there, what 10 pearls of advice would you give to a young dark skinned Black
girl to be self-confident and proud of her skin color in spite of the negative distractors?
In the documentary DARK GIRLS, the movie discussed the negativity that dark skinned Black women and girls received on a constant basis. In one segment of the movie, there was one dark skinned Black girl who did not want to be called Black. She believed it to be quite derogatory. One dark skinned Black woman indicated that the most negativity she received was from fellow Black people. One Black youth indicated that he would "look funny" being with a dark skinned Black girl.
I have only one thing to say "dont have a inferiority complex"
Yahoo reported, MIAMI (AP) — Talk show host Rodner Figueroa was fired from Univision after saying that Michelle Obama looks like someone from the cast of "Planet of the Apes." I thought of this hub when I saw this story. Just saying.
I'm not black, but I have taught for 13 years and many of my students are. Advice that I want them to hear:
1. Don't be afraid to be the smartest person in the room.
2. Your skin is beautiful, regardless of the shade.
3. Kindness makes you beautiful.
4. Use your education to your advantage. (even if the teacher is horrible)
5. Learn to walk and live in both worlds.
6. Don't settle for anything less than love.
7. Sex is not love.
8. Strength does not make you a bitch.
9. Celebrate your accomplishments.
10. Never feel ashamed for being you.
1. Love yourself. Love yourself Inside Out.
2. Even though some men devalue you and disregard you, that's their self-hatred issue. Never make it your concern.
3. Look in the mirror and fall in love with the shape of your eyes, design of your nose, shape of your lips, your cheekbones.
4. Wear colors that bring you out and complement your beautiful dark chocolate skin.
5. Make sure that any man you encounter respects you.
6. Make sure that men treat you with value, respect, and honor you. Like exposed in darkgirls the documentary.........no "hanging out" or eating over your house allowed.
7. Know yourself and your history. Understand that people's "conditioning" as nothing to do with you. (Willie Lynch)
8. You deserve to be loved, romanced, respected, and MARRIED like every other culture/class/race.
9. Carry yourself like you are worth a million dollars. Your validation comes from inside, not outside.
10. Being intelligent, beautiful (inside and out), while loving God and being a loving person is allowed and should be reciprocated.
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent-Eleanor Roosevelt

I think everyone has there own preferences, You would think people prefer dark skin that's why they are out in the sun and at the tanning beds Always striving to look better, but not striving to be better people.
