What is your view about the Trans community using gender orientated toilet blocks?
I had a very disturbing conversation the other evening with a extremely harsh individual. This person was completely against the Trans community using public gender orientated toilets and I am in total disagreement with her evaluation of this community.
Her words were strong, abusive and lacked education on this issue, I am curious about how common her view is and if there is more we can do too change this negative view, as well as the unproven fallacies that surround this subject. They are human beings as we all are and we should show our support
Simple. A trans woman should use the woman's bathroom. A trans man should use the men's bathroom. If there is a unisex bathroom then anybody can use it. I really don't get what the issue is with this.
People try to make the argument that they cannot allow this due to the dangers of pedophilia, but this is just some excuse used by bigots to discriminate against a group of people they do not, or refuse to, understand. People are afraid of change after all.
They should use whichever one they identify with, and most people will never know the difference. I never understood the idea that transgendered people should use the washroom that matches their genitalia as in most cases it's going to look like a man just walked into the ladies' room and vice versa. I think that'd be bound to cause more problems.
Are you saying that the person you spoke to doesn't think a trans person should be allowed to use EITHER washroom? That is ridiculous and would be impossible to enforce. I think a lot of people who have never met or have very limited experience with trans people are under the impression that they are all easily spotted and just like to throw a wig and some lipstick on for funsies. In reality, I was friends with a transgender man for over a year before he told me he was trans and the thought had never crossed my mind before. He hasn't undergone gender reassignment surgery but people don't bat an eye when he walks into the men's room. He looks 100% male and the only way you'd know he was born a female is if he told you or if you had a genital scanner.
Personally I couldn't care less who I'm peeing/washing my hands next to. I've used unisex washrooms before and it provides WAY more privacy than most gendered washrooms I've used which I think is a positive.
Truly I think that when it comes to this topic people fear what they do not understand/are unfamiliar with and that's all there is to it.
Until the mentally ill boy or rapist posing as one is in the girls' dorm, shower, women's shelter. The bathroom issue is what they present it as, when it is actually destroying gender segregation that exists for women's privacy and safety.
Do you really believe that boys are going to live their lives as girls just to get into showers? Trans youth are severely bullied, that boy would have to suffer through a lot just to get into a public area where chances of doing anything are slim
Tamara, if we are vigilant about watching our children and guarding them against any predator and not specifically trans people ( could be anyone), it would not be an issue and they would be safe. I never leave my children alone in a public toilet.
Short answer, no.
Long answer: You can either say there is a rape culture and 1/5 of women are raped ... or you can say gender is what you want it to be, let the biologically intact men often sexually attracted to women into women's bathrooms, showers, cabins, dorms, changing rooms because nothing is going to happen.
It isn't about where someone pees. It is about the supposed right of a biologically intact mentally ill 15 year old to stand naked in the girls' locker room and your daughter's privacy is irrelevant compared to his desire to be among the girls. It is about the ability of men who say they are women to gain access to women's shelters and living areas, whether he's crazy or a predator saying he's crazy.
We have sexual segregation for the safety of women, as well as their comfort and privacy. Eroding this for a fad is dangerous. It will also hurt women's standing in public. For example, women hailed the invention of sex segregated bathrooms so they could work outside the home and not share a bathroom with men unrelated to them. The lack of this in much of the developing world is why girls get taken out of school when they hit puberty. But we're supposed to roll back this simple sex segregation for the safety and privacy of women because of an androgyny/gender bending fad? No.
Letting crazy men dictate what is acceptable for women is to denigrate women.
You know that there are women who transition to men who are fighting for the same thing, right? This isn't just about "crazy men" dictating women. Not to mention plenty of women support the movement themselves.
Most transgenders are biological men, as I said above. That some women support transgenderism is irrelevant to its morality or negative impact on many women. There are women supporting Muslim migration regardless of the 500% increase in rapes, too.
Morality as deemed by YOU, of course. My point is that most people pushing for the rights of trans people are not mentally ill perverts as your last sentence suggests.

If a rape victim is silenced out of political pressure, others are
Gender orientated toilets were not established for the safety of women, they were established because of colonial perspectives towards segregation.

Should transgender people be allowed to use the opposite biological sex bathroom? With a major company already in the process of making this happen. Would you feel comfortable with an opposite sex going into the washroom ?

Why have Trans Bathroom Bill supporters overlooked this glaringly obvious flaw? Those who are in favour of this bill seem to be focused on the fact that predators could claim to be a transwoman to gain access to the ladies restroom. Aside from the fact that a gender sign has never stopped a...
