   The ultimate goal is, as the previous 'answerer' says, to enable the student to reach a point where he or she knows as much as the teacher and is motivated or inspired to go beyond the teacher's knowledge.

   I as a teacher ( just a short stint) I would love to see my students excell and be the best. More than that I would love to see them as good human beings, considerate, helpful, magnaimus, tolerant  and you can add on...
   I would to be proud to say that I was a part of that moulding process.

   I think that a teacher's job is to instill a love of learning in the student, as well as the ability to continue learning on their own after the teacher has taught all that they can.

   Every teacher's dream is to inspire a student (young or mature) to become self motivated and reach beyond their own expectations or the teachers expectations.  You can teach a subject but to teach a love of the subject is to truly teach.

    I always strive to help each student become as successful as they choose to be given their skills and abilities at that time. Many times they just need to know that someone believes in them and it encourages them to stretch beyond their belief barrier of what they thought they could not do.
