    In Asia, we call this disaster a typhoon but in America they call it hurricane.

      Hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons are actually identical weather events that are known by different names in different parts of the world. This distinctive weather pattern is called a “hurricane” when it occurs in the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific. The same storm in the Northwest Pacific Ocean is referred to as a “typhoon” and in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean it is called a “cyclone.” {1}
