“Mount ... was covered with smoke, because the ... descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.”

Correct, Mount Sinai. But what is Mount Sinai?

Deuteronomy 4:11-12: “You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness. Then the LORD spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice.”

Something to do with the 10 commandments, I think?

No, I'm talking about Mount Sinai itself. You know, that quaking mountain that was described as having fire and cloud/smoke coming from it. What is that?

That's a good guess. Biblical Mount Sinai sounds very similar to Mount St. Helens.
