New solar system with at least five planets discovered
A solar system around 127 light years away with at least five planets was discovered on August, 24 by atronomers at the European Southern Observatory in La Silla, Chile. The planets are orbiting the star HD 10180, and range in size with some being as small as Earth and others as big as Saturn. They are believed to be rocky and icy. The planets were detected using a method which measures the wobble of the star caused by the gravity of the orbiting planets. Over 400 extrasolar planets have been discovered to date. This raises the question, can we really be alone in the universe?
