The Exodus Discovered! Egypt to Arabia

Evidence of the Exodus Discovery

Evidence of Joseph and Moses in Egypt, Moses flees Egypt to Midian then returns to free the Israelite Slaves. From Rameses to the Red Sea, crossing it on dry land, Chariot Wheels found, encampments in Saudi Arabia, Mount Sinai in Arabia, Altars, tent circles, Elijah's cave and more discoveries proving that the Exodus not only happened, but happened in a land that is mostly unoccupied even to this day. Not a whole lot of people live in these areas and therefore remain preserved even to this date!

Moses fled to Midian, where is Midian? We have scripture telling us where Mount Sinai is: "... is mount Sinai in Arabia..." (Galatians 4:25). Bible maps have always questioned the Exodus route and Mt. Sinai, but with no evidence. If you look on Map 1 you can see where the old map states where Midian was, in Arabia (Saudi).

The Exodus Route

They left Egypt that same day, yet were still in Egypt controlled territory. This is where Wyatt believed they took a central route through the Sinai Peninsula (Wilderness of the Red Sea or the large upside triangle shape between the two fingers of the Red Sea). Old maps show the Red Sea crossing was on the Suez, but had Moses led the people across the Gulf of Suez, they would have still been in Egyptian-controlled territory. See Map 1 for Egyptian patrolled land and Egypt Proper in the 18th dynasty.

This map is in detail on my "Red Sea Crossing" page.

The Exodus story begins

The Exodus story begins as Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers. He interpreted a dream for the Pharaoh and became great in Egypt. The dream showed seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. Joseph saved the people from death with his plan to store grain for seven years during the time of plenty. His father Jacob, Joseph's brothers and their families came from Canaan to Egypt during that seven year famine. When Jacob died his bones were in Egypt, but with a promise to return his bones Canaan. When they left Egypt they got the bones and brought them with them. Joshua 24:32.

^ Photos above: Left is a stone found in 1890 by Charles Wilbour. He discovered this on the island of Sehel at the Nile in Egypt, telling a story of Imhotep. See here for the Sehel Stone inscription and Joseph/Imhotep. This photo is in the public domain by author: Markh on wiki. -- The photos on the right are the Sakkara (Saqqara) Pyramid and "The Granaries of Joseph" found there. See this pyramid here: 29°52'9.20"N - 31°12'59.54"E.

Interestingly there is an investigation that Joseph was Imhotep. Imhotep means "the voice of IM" (or mouth of IM) in ancient Egyptian. There is no record of a god in Egypt called "Im". But in the biblical records we know there is a God whose name is "I AM".

Excavations done at the Step pyramid of Djoser (or Step Tomb) in Sakkara, unearthed fragments of a statue of the Pharaoh Djoser. The bottom of a statue, the feet and base only, was inscribed names of Djoser and describing the architect: "Imhotep, Chancellor of the King of Lower Egypt, Chief under the King, Administrator of the Great Palace, Hereditary Lord, High Priest of Heliopolis, Imhotep the Builder, the Sculptor, the Maker of Stone Vases..."

Who else is like Imhotep? Could it be Joseph? See more evidence: Is Joseph of the bible, the architect Imhotep of Pharoah Djoser's Dynasty?

Joseph and that generation died and God remembered the Israelites saw their oppression. A new Pharaoh that did not know Joseph was afraid of the great multitude of Israelites that were growing among his people. They were the slaves of the Egyptians that built the pyramids and many great things. He was so afraid that he had newborn boys throne into the river! A levite couple saved their son by putting him in a basket in the river. The Pharaoh's daughter found him and took him as her own. We know him as Moses. Moses's real mother was hired (unknowingly) to feed him until he was old enough.

Moses was son of the Pharaoh's daughter. He was "Crown Prince" and is heir to the throne of Egypt. He had much training, "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds" (Acts 7:22). After killing an Egyptian for hurting a slave, he was on the run now, since this Pharoah now wanted him. Moses fled to Midian (Arabia/ Saudi Arabia).

In Midian Moses found a wife (daughter of Jethro) and had two sons. Many years later while shepherding, God talked to him through a burning bush. Moses was to go back to Egypt and tell the Pharaoh to "let my people go", just as God had promised, He would free the Israelites from slavery.

Midianites lived in the land of Arabia, Jethro the Midian lived in Al-Bad which you can see on Map 2. Or googlearth: 28°29'18.92"N - 34°59'57.15"E . Much evidence has been found there in new finds that Jethro and Moses lived there.

A new Pharaoh was in Egypt when Moses came back, Thutmoses 4 (Amenhotep 3). God sent many signs, wonders and plagues upon the Egyptians. The final event was the passover in which the angel of death came and killed the first born of all those who did not have the blood of a lamb painted on their door posts. When the Pharaoh's first born son was dead, he finally let them go. As they were leaving the Egyptians were burying their dead first borns. The Israelites left with their families, cattle and they asked for gold, silver, jewels and clothing from the Egyptians.

Ron Wyatt on Succoth and getting ready to leave.

10 Plagues Before the Exodus.

Succoth was also called: Tharu, T'aru, and Takut. A quote from "Life in Ancient Egypt" by Adolf Erman (28, 537): "The isthmus of Suez was of the greatest consequence also from a military point of view - it was doubtless fortified in very early times. Probably here stood the great fortress of T'aru, often spoken of as the starting-point for the expeditions into Syria..."

At the point where one would leave Egypt proper and go into the Sinai desert, there was a fortress and a bridge. Inscriptions tell us that this fortress was called "Tharu".

T'aru (Succoth) was known as a starting point for military expeditions, which Moses would have well known this from his training.. From Rameses they gathered at Succoth into an organized ranking system. Moses knew how to form a group into manageable formation in preparation to cross the desert.

2 - 4. From Succoth to Etham - Through the Wilderness of the Red Sea

Exodus from Egypt Succoth (Taru) to Etham (El Thamad)
Exodus from Egypt Succoth (Taru) to Etham (El Thamad)

(Map made from references to Ron Wyatt's maps wyattmuseum.com)

Moses and the Israelites gathered together at Succoth (from the land of Goshen) and left for their "3 day" travel to worship in the wilderness. The Egyptian military had watch towers across the land and they sent signals, reaching back to Pharoah that the Israelites had indeed fled and were not coming back.

They left Succoth and entered into a wilderness of the Red Sea. "But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea..."(EXO 13:18). The wilderness of the Red Sea is within the southern half of the Sinai Peninsula. "And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness." (EXO 13:20). Etham was at the "edge of the wilderness."

God led them by a pillar of a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. They traveled day and night until they encamped in Etham. They carried enough water through this time, and enough unleavened bread for seven days. They encamped at Etham, before they turned to go to the next camp which would be "before Pihahiroth" (and between Migdol and the sea).

The Israelites were told to use only unleavened bread for seven days - indicating that they would be traveling faster without time to camp for seven days. "Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD. And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt." (Exodus 13: 6,8)

By following the trail that Ron Wyatt believed to be the real Exodus way, it is an estimated 167 miles from Succoth to Nuweiba Beach. They encamped at Etham, then went south towards Pihahiroth (which Ron believed was Nuweiba). More detail on estimated travel across the Sinai: Red Sea Crossing Truth.

4 - 5. Etham to Pihahiroth (Nuweiba Beach) - Etham (Thamad), go South, through a Wadi and reach the Red Sea.

Exodus Map Etham to Pihahiroth Nuweiba Aqaba Red Sea
Exodus Map Etham to Pihahiroth Nuweiba Aqaba Red Sea

"And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness." (Exodus 13:20 KJV)

Etham wraps around the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba (the Red Sea). From Etham (Thamad) they turned south and encamped before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol (watchtower) and the sea. The name Nuweiba is short for Nuwayba' al Muzayyinah which means "Waters of Moses Opening".

They were entangled in the land because of the narrow Wadi Watir that leads into Nuweiba (Gulf of Aqaba). The Egyptian army was coming behind them and the Red Sea was before them. They were caught in the entangled mountains of Nuweiba Beach.

6. Nuweiba: Pihahiroh, Between Migdol and the Sea

Exodus Etham to Pihahiroh Migdol Nuweiba Aqaba
Exodus Etham to Pihahiroh Migdol Nuweiba Aqaba

At the north end of the Nuweiba beach area, there are the remains of an ancient Egyptian fortress (now being redone), so the Israelites likely turned south to avoid it. Ron believed this was Pihahiroth. As they were in between Migdol (watch-tower) and the sea, Migdol could either be the mountains to the west, making a barrier, enclosing them on the beach -- or it may have been a watch-tower likely positioned on top of one of those mountains to watch ships coming into Gulf of Aqaba. It is documented, they flashed messages from watch-tower to watch-tower through the Sinai Peninsula, using reflected sunlight by day and fire by night. This is probably how Pharaoh knew where Moses and the people went. Moses would have known about the watch-towers.

In Saudi Arabia, across from where they entered the sea, is another ancient structure. All alone on the beach, it may have been a Midianite fortress, perhaps dedicated to Baal; Ron believed this was Baalzephon. Ron also said the phrase "over against" seems to mean "opposite of" in respect to being across a body of water.

Pillars at the Red Sea Crossing - Nuweiba (Egypt Side) / opposite side Saudi Arabia

Source

About 3,000 years ago someone put up pillars at the site marking the place of the crossing. It was King Solomon's pillars, he was very aware of the site and it says it in the bible here: "In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD near its border." Isaiah 19:19. You can see the shadow on the Egyptian Side Here: 28°58'11.58"N - 34°38'32.86"E The pillar on the Saudi side was removed after Ron Wyatt showed the authorities where it was. There is a place marker there set in concrete. There were inscriptions on that pillar that said: Pharoah, Mizraim (Egypt), Moses, death, water, Yahweh, Solomon, Edom

Red Sea Evidence

Chariot Wheels and Axles. The Lord caused the Egyptians wheels to come off, confused them and then covered all the host of Pharaoh with the waters. More than 600 chariots, wheels, army gear, weapons, horses and men sunk. Coral has grown on these items so they remain preserved. The wood dissolved, but as the coral grows the shapes remain the same. The area has scattered spots of coral, chariot wheels preserved, bones, horse hooves, chariot boxes - at both sides of the crossing.

Golden Chariot Wheel

This golden chariot wheel was found at the crossing at Nuweiba. It was gold plated 4 spoked, so fragile because the wood had dissolved. Coral will not grow on gold and the gold itself preserved this wheel.

* from Red Sea to Mt Sinai *

Exodus 15 through 19 gives great detail of the Israelites journey from the Red Sea to the camp at Mt Sinai. There are a couple of camps left out. Numbers 33 gives us a list of all the "pitches" or "camps" they made:

Verse 8 And they departed from before Pihahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and went three days' journey in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in Marah.

9 And they removed from Marah, and came unto Elim: and in Elim were twelve fountains of water, and threescore and ten palm trees; and they pitched there.

10 And they removed from Elim, and encamped by the Red sea.

11 And they removed from the Red sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin (dessert of sin).

12 And they took their journey out of the wilderness of Sin, and encamped in Dophkah.

13 And they departed from Dophkah, and encamped in Alush.

14 And they removed from Alush, and encamped at Rephidim, where was no water for the people to drink.

15 And they departed from Rephidim, and pitched in the wilderness of Sinai.

7 - 8. Midian (aka S. Arabia): Red Sea to Elim

based on Ron Wyatt's Map

From the Red Sea they traveled south for three days into the Wilderness of Shur (Etham). With no water for 3 days, they found water at Marah. These waters were bitter and Moses made sweet with a tree. Then they come to Elim which had 12 springs and 70 palm trees and camped there. (based on Ron Wyatt's Map)

9. "...left Elim and camped by the Red Sea" (Numbers 33:10) - based on Ron Wyatt's Map

They camped between Elim and the Red Sea. Then from camping by the Red Sea, Ron believed they took the route south because of the fierce Amalekites (descendants of Esau's grandson, Amalek). If they had taken the main wadi straight across to Rephidim, they would be out in plain view and vulnerable on all sides.

9 - 11. Red Sea to Rephidim (Split Rock) Dophkah and Alush in between camps

  • Pink/Green: Dophkah to Alush
  • Yellow: Alush to Rephidim (near Mount Horeb)
  • Blue: Rephidim to Mount Sinai Camp.

This is my version of Ron's Map based on his description. (It's very close, but may not be perfect. Can't be sure where Dophkah and Alush is.) See Map 6 for Ron's map.

"And they removed from the Red sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin." Numbers 33:11, Exodus 16:1.

They went through a wadi below Elim. It was the south side of the mountains that extend west to east (see green line) This supposedly shielded them to the north by 2 long mountains meeting the wadi on each side. One mountain is from the Wadi Afal to the Red Sea and the other is the Jebel el Lawz range from the Wadi Afal to the Mount Sinai. They were safer from attacking forces. They headed east and come to north/south wadi called Wadi Afal.

In Numbers 33 Moses writes about "place to place" that Exodus 17 leaves out. They encamp at Dophkah and Alush before reaching Rephidim. There are no clues to these locations except the meaning of the words. Dophkah means "cattle driving" which years earlier, Moses had his flocks in this Wadi Afal. Which he would lead his flock from (present day) Al-Bad of Jethro's home to Mt. Sinai where he heard the Lord speak in a burning bush. Alush (Aluwsh aw-loosh) means "place in the desert".

(~ All this information is in greater detail from Ron Wyatt's own accounts on various websites.)

Notes: See Map 7 for a different travel path after crossing the Red Sea of the Elim to Rephidim (from Jim/Penny Caldwell's video and she wrote "The God of the Mountain".) I also like this view because it includes the encampment of wilderness of sin (or dessert of sin) (Num 33:11), which is likely the area encompassing of Jethro's hometown (Al-bad). (If that is so and Moses was so close to home, why did Jethro have to bring his wife later? ) And yet this version gives room for the mass to encamp by the Red Sea. (Num 33:10)

I discovered another map from the video of Jim and Penny Caldwell. See Map 7 for a different travel path after crossing the Red Sea to Rephidim in Arabia. Penny Caldwell wrote "The God of the Mountain".

At Rephidim they complained of a lack of water. This is where Moses struck the rock near Mt. Horeb and obtained a gushing of water (Exodus 17:1-7; 19:2). Moses named the place "Meribah," or strife. There was also a clash with Bedouin Amelekites. Aaron and Hur supported Moses' hands in prayer while Joshua secured a great victory (Joshua 17:8-16).

This map is from a video I took with my iphone so it's a bit blurry. It's different from Ron Wyatt's map (#6). A different path and encampments from the Red Sea to Rephidim (split rock). You can find parts of video on utube or buy the dvd from their website splitrockresearch.org. The video gives details about their expedition in Saudi Arabia to Egypt and back to Arabia for a huge discovery, the real Mount Sinai.

As I discovered by reading their book The God of the Mountain they were led by a vision and found the mountain on their own, Ron Wyatt and another man from another country also were led by God in the same area during the same time frame. Each on their separate journeys who met up later after many trips to the area. Many photos and videos you see today were from Jim and Penny Caldwell's trips into the desert of Arabia.

I also like this view because it includes the encampment of wilderness of sin (or dessert of sin) (Num 33:11), which is likely the area encompassing of Jethro's hometown (Al-bad). How was your visit to see the Exodus? 46 comments

Great post. I love Ron Wyatt, and share his same religious beliefs. I'm using this info to further show how God is going to lead His people around this time of spiritual "Sodom and Egypt" of Rev.11:8 (now) - and around the time of the 7 Last Plagues of Revelation.

Ezekiel 29:2-12 is also relevant to these themes. I plan on giving you credit for my jumping off point in teasing this out (hope OK?). I'll be only hinting at what God has revealed in His Bible, in that I do not want to overload the senses. Not everyone has an open mind, nor is able to see these literal truths (such as Moses and miraculous Red Sea crossing) as also symbolic of same type of miracles and leadings in Last Days. I also know that God has a special place for His people, as He did Noah and the ark (quite different than what people would think). Thank you for taking a peek at my site. It was quickly put together today. I hope I didn't make any errors. I just fully read your site today. I should be posting this topic by 8pm Central (10-19-14). God bless: marioncheek.wordpress.com

@mrdovie47: Interesting how some bible maps have a question mark, I'm seeing more and more maps with an extra question mark in the S. Arabia location. Good to see that the evidence for this location is coming to light as well. :) Thanks for coming and commenting!

Very Good, Eye opening facts. The Galatians 4:25 is referring to spiritual things, but still locates Mt Sinai in Arabia. When Rome adapted Christianity, they messed up (Big Time) the knowledge that the 1st century Church took for granted.

@anonymous: I respectfully disagree with you. The study of Archaeology needs people that will seek the truth whatever that truth may be in the end. If the truth alludes to the biblical exodus story being correct then so be it, if it doesn't then so be it. What we cannot have is people looking at evidence with their own preconceived perception of history. All that does is create a false history.

anonymous 3 years ago

@anonymous: Correct me if I'm wrong. The study of archaeology, and the Bible needs a community, of believers, our Salvation is based on being saved by the Blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ, is My Savior. I would ask God to guide me by the Holy Spirit and judge me by my motives to glorify His Name, His Love and His Kingdom of Truth. Lucifer has a name in Revelation 9:11 It may not be translated into English in the King James Version. In English Satan's name is The Destroyer.

@anonymous: Before you criticize others of "gotten it wrong" you should perhaps pay more attention to your own research, or, beliefs as it would appear on the subject. The entire 6000 year creation ideology is erroneous at best, and you should approach the entire matter with a far more open mind. There is a major chronological flaw in Genesis and every Scholar and open minded student of Biblical studies (without a pre-conceived religious viewpoint) knows this - and this "Gap" theory in Genesis acknowledged by Scholars and open minded people doesn't exist for nothing!@ideadesigns - nicely presented!

@anonymous: I have no idea whether that is correct or not. I was simply remarking on the dates that were posted above.

anonymous 4 years ago

Ron Wyatt's chronology is all erroneous.Adam's year of creation is 4114 BC, not 4004 BC.Abraham did not offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice in the year 1876 BC.Ron Wyatt and you have gotten it wrong!

@anonymous: I appreciate your correcting earlier and hope that your correcting is done in love and mercy. It might help to win souls for Christ if we are encouraging and not sending them to hell all the time. :) With your second error ...I'm leaning towards what I have written. Read the link above, "BIBLICAL CHRONOLOGY" and read Ron's notes under 1876 it's interesting. God Bless!

anonymous 4 years ago

Well done for spotting and correcting the error!I want to point out another error in your Bible Chronology.Jacob did not enter Egypt to live in 1706 BC.Please get your facts correct. The correct year is ......I totally agree with Revelation 22:18-19. We certainly do not wish to end up in hell for teaching wrong facts!

@anonymous: I have fixed it, I added a line to correct the issue. He was 80 at the time of Exodus.

anonymous 4 years ago

Your Biblical chronology is wrong!1486 BC - Moses flees from Egypt at age 40 yrs1446 BC - THE EXODUS (Moses dies at 120 yrs (Deu. 34:7)If Moses was 40 years old in 1486 BC, then in 1446 BC, Moses should be 80 years old. Definitely not 120 years old. Please read Revelation 22:18-19 carefully. It's a warning from God to all of us.

@anonymous: Never seen his map before, but it's similar to maps in the back of the bible with a red sea crossing along the suez canal area and Mt Sinai in the Sinai Peninsula. This page is about the evidence of the Exodus out of Egypt where they crossed the Sinai Peninsula to the very opposite end and crossed the Red Sea at Nuweiba into Saudi Arabia/Midian where is believed the real Mt. Sinai is located.

For a solid Biblical account of the life of Moses, the Exodus and the Wilderness Journey, please read Book 2 of the History of Redemption Series "The Covenant of the Torch" by Rev. Abraham Park. Rev. Abraham Park reveals all 42 campsites of the Wilderness Journey for the first time in history. You will regret eternally if you don't read this book!!!

@dukepeterson: ... We know that it was God making winds all night... With walls of water divided left and right they walked on dry land that much we know. Again thanks for commenting!

dukepeterson 4 years ago

Sorry about all the typos. Late evening, fat fingers and no glasses are a bad combination.I really am literate. The end of one paragraph I wrote should read, "This required a miracle that would NOT have been accomplished by God parting the waters of a shallow marsh. This is all truly fascinating. Also, one thing I have not seen mentioned much, if any, is that the Gulf of Aqaba lies along the Dead Sea fault line. God can certainly use the earth he created to accomplish many miracles, pillar of smoke, pillar of fire, parting of the Red Sea, Jordan River stops flowing to allow the Hebrews to enter the promised land, etc. Sounds like seismic activity to me.

Very nice presentation. Even though the exact location of certain names are hard to locate, for sure we can all dismiss the traditional exodus route found in the back of our bibles. Moses fled from Egypt to Midian, Midian is in nowthwest Saudi Arabia. The present Sinai peninsula, though not part of Egypt proper, was part of Egypt's extra terratorial jurisdiction( ETJ), if you will. and contained mines and many forttresses and outposts controlled by Egypt. When Moses led his people out of Egypt he was taking them to Midian, a place, after having lived there forty years, he knew like the back of hand. As they were traveling along the north edge of the Wildeness of the Red Sea, a route he had traveled many times to Midian, though over land, he had to wonder, what would keep the Egyptian army from pursuing us all the way to Midian. At Etham, at the eastern edge of the WIlderness of the Red Sea, God had to turn back, go south through a series of Wadis to Nuweiba that truly painted them in a corner with no human solution, mountains either side, deep water ahead and an Egyptian army bringing up the rear. This required a miracle that would have been accomplished by God parting the waters of a shallow marsh.Although one could give Bob Cornuke a little credit for opting for the Straits of Tiran instead of Nuweiba, basically the only difference from his story and that of Ron Wyatt who preceded him by years. Nuweiba wins hands down with all the accompanying evidence. It fits the biblical descriptions, the names, evidence of chariot parts found by several divers on both sides of the Gulf of Aqaba, and two pillars put on each side of the crossing to commerorate the event. If King Solomon buys it, so do I.Once into Midian, most folks investigations agree. The evidence is compelling, esp since you can go to google earth and see a lot of it

anonymous 4 years ago

Hmmm didn't actually see much "proof" here but really much speculation presented as facts. I've believe that this event happened in history, the wheels found at the crossing etc. is very interesting. But are there more solid proof of this historical event? Those who have written this part in the testament could have been walking the same route with or without moses so described landmarks isn't a great proof. If you have any interesting links with more info it would be nice :)

I discovered Ron Wyatt many years ago - back in the mid 1990s, I saw several of his videos, and I thought his evidence was very compelling. Have you read the Novel - The Alexandria Link by Steve Berry? The central story revolves the fact that most of the place names in the western Saudi Arabia match those listed in the book of Exodus. Therefore the Israelites must have crossed the Red Sea at Nuweiba. This was the secret that was hidden in the Alexandria Library and the Jews of modern day Israel will do anything to prevent that secret from becoming public knowledge. They do not want to lose the land they currently occupy. An excellent novel IMO. And yes I think it is highly likely that Moses was Akhenaton. He did follow one god just as Akhenaton did, and Moses was forced to leave just as Akhenaton and his family were forced to leave.

@anonymous: Thanks for asking! I've only read Mary's newsletter (1993) about the 18th dynasty. Beginning here: http://www.wyattnewsletters.com/exodus/ex07.htm and continues a few pages. On www.../ex17, another title "Egyptian Watergate" she mentions Akhnaten/Akhenaten (3rd pg). I recommend reading from the first page, so as not to be taken out of context. Also the last page gives several recommended readings if your interested in further study.

anonymous 5 years ago

You haven't mentioned Amenhotep IV - Akhenaton. Could Moses have been Akhenaton. He lived long enough to have become the Rebel Pharoah of the One God. He was the father of Tutankhamun to which you have mentioned but left the gap between not mentioning Amenhotep IV son of Amenthotep III
