10 Batman Villains Most Likely to Turn up in the Next Film

10 Batman Villains Most Likely to Turn up in the Next Film

Ok this top 10 list is a bit different to my others as not everyone will really care but if there are any batman fans out there, take a read!

Christopher Nolan has created the benchmark for comic book films, his dark and realistic tone proving well with fans. After his highly successful 'Batman Begins' and its sequel 'The Dark Knight', his final batman film is scheduled for release in 2012. At the moment all involved are keeping pretty tight-lipped about the films, with only minor details to do with filming locations and release being announced. Probably the biggest secret for the film is who's going to play the villain and who is the villain going to be. I've compiled a list of 10 possible villains that probably have the most chance of being in the film. Each of the villains include their description, how they'd fit in with the film along with possible casting ideas and which other villains they'd most likely star beside. Also, I haven't included any past villains in this list for various reasons. I believe the joker should defiantly NOT be recast, you can't top Heath Ledger. I also believe Ra's al Ghul is dead (for now) and should not come back, along with Two-face. Scarecrow was a great villain and I wouldn't mind another cameo though I don't think he's right for this movie. I've gotta say, the first few villains are probably not likely but still could work, Anyway let's begin!

10. Killer Croc

Killer Croc was born with a medical defect which slowly turned him into a crocodile, looks and strength. Growing up he had no parents, an alcoholic aunt and no friends. Numerous convictions led him to jail time and time again and he eventually killed a fellow inmate after making fun of his looks. His rock hard skin and skill with wrestling has given Batman a difficult opponent to defeat, often fighting in the sewers of Gotham. He has superhuman strength but is often described with low intelligence.

His role in the movie

Okay, it's no easy task to fit a 8 feet tall crocodile into Nolan's realistic world but there are certainly ways to make it work. The Medical condition and bad childhood all works fine, they just have to exaggerate it less. He could grow up with a skin disease making him look croc-like and then take up wrestling, becoming a champion. Because Nolan's movies are dealing with an early Batman, all of the villains are kind of early versions too, just getting introduced. There could be a bunch of murders in the sewers of Gotham where Batman must investigate, there he finds Croc. Throughout the movie he can grow stronger and stronger and by the end of the movie we see the 'Killer Croc' that we see today. (minus outrageously crocodilian features) Casting guess would probably be 'Michael Clarke Duncan

Who he'd be seen with

Now there is no way Killer Croc could be the main villain of the film, it just doesn't work. He can be the reason why Batman returns to Gotham in the first place though, to figure out the continuous murders the police are baffled by. He would most likely be in a film alongside Hugo Strange, who could possibly provide the superhuman drug of Titan to him or a possible cure to his disease, as well as Talia al Ghul, someone who Batman is forced to save after she is captured.

9. Harley Quinn

Harleen Quinzel was originally a psychiatrist working at Arkahm Asylum. She quickly became fascinated by the Joker and in no time was under his spell. After falling in love with him, she then helped him breakout of the Asylum, gaining suspicion from the police. After an earthquake rocked Gotham City, she emerged as the Joker's new sidekick, Harley Quinn. Despite being in love with the Joker, calling him things like 'Mr J' and 'My little puddin', The Joker finds Harley rather annoying, abandoned her when she is no longer needed. Harley though doesn't take this personally and always comes back for more!

Her role in the Movie

Now Harley is always seen with the Joker but like I said, a return of the Joker is unlikely to happen, though this can't stop Harley. We could see the origins of Harley in this movie with her obsession with the Joker descending her into madness. Apart from being a psychiatrist at Arkham, she could always take the role of a journalist, and an original love interest for Batman. The journalist theme could work well with Harleen, a budding young writer, continuing to report on the happenings of the Joker and his crimes. After an (off-screen) visit to the Joker, she decides that she must continue his work as Harley Quinn. Casting Guesses- maybe Kirsten Dunst or Anna Faris.

Who she'd be seen with

Once again, Harley would not be a main villain and without the Joker she would probably be working alone. After visiting the Joker in prison, he could request that she kill, not Batman, but possibly Gordon, as a way of messing with him. Unable to complete the plan herself, she enlists the help of the Black Mask, who comes to Gotham to reign over the mob. She may also be seen with Catwoman or Talia al Ghul, after teaming up with one of them.

8. The Ventriloquist

Arnold Wesker is a shy, weak ventriloquist who suffers from multiple personality disorder, his second personality being transmitted through his dummy, Scarface. After a bar brawl and the murder of a man, Arnold Wesker was sent to Blackgate prison where he first encountered the puppet scarface. He managed to kill the puppet's original owner and then used the doll to commit a series of criminal activities. Scarface has a 1920s gangster like appearance usually appearing in a pinstripe suit, tommy gun and cigar.

His role in the movie

The Ventriloquist is very much a 'mob guy' so that fits in with the big mob influence in the Nolan films. Now the Ventriloquist is defiantly not going to be the main villain, probably not even the secondary villain, but he could still make his mark. Employed by one of the main villains, Arnold could be in charge of giving the mob over to their side. He's not going to be a 'chase scene guy' but could make a frightening encounter if done right. I would defiantly emphasize the fragile, damaged mind of Wesker in the movie giving it a scary psychological feel. Possible actor who would play him could be William H Macy or possibly even John Hurt.

Who he'd be seen with

The Ventriloquist would probably be employed by someone such as The Penguin or The Riddler to be used as a henchman and the way I explained above. Apart from that, I can't see him really interacting with any other villains.

7. The Penguin

"Born Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, the Penguin was teased very much in childhood due to his short stature, obesity, and bird-like nose. These traits made him an outcast in his rich, debutante family. Their rejection drove him to become a violent criminal." "The Penguin is a genius with keen analytical mind and a sharp business acumen. He is proficient in areas pertaining to organized crime and business management."

His role in the movie

When people think of The Penguin from Batman, they think of the 60's version or Danny De Vito's portrayal of him, let's not! Neither of those versions would really fit into Nolan's universe, so let's forget that whole first part this section about him being short, fat and bird nosed! My idea rather then having what we already know is to have a younger penguin, as Nolan did with Batman. These are early Batman years meaning the Villains are early too! Oswald could be a young successful businessman (with a longish nose, not deformed!), rival to Bruce Wayne. At first he is quite successful but soon begins to lose money and turns to the mob for help. The mob gives him all the money he needs in return that he uses his influences in the business world to help him. The more he helps out the mob, the more he likes it and begins to take over the corporation which leads to a confrontation with Batman. Being a younger Batman, I'd want him to be player by an actor in their mid 30's rather than mid 40's, so possibly Joseph Gordon-Levitt could be a good fit or maybe Giovanni Ribisi. Saying those names, they might not be chubby enough! Maybe he could get progressively fatter throughout the film?

Who he'd be seen with

Having some connections in the mob, Black Mask might be a good one. He could come in, angered that Penguin has taken over the mob. He could also try to get Catwoman on his side to help defeat Batman.

6. Hugo Strange

"Hugo Strange had a bald misshapen head, complete with bushy eyebrows, coke-bottle glasses and a thick beard accenting his jaw. He is an insane psychologist and chemical genius who knows Batman's secret identity Strange would lend credence to his own claims by learning of Batman's true identity of Bruce Wayne. However, his hatred of Batman turned into more and more of a deranged obsession, using his medical expertise to hatch a series of bizarre plots based around genetics and mind control in order to defeat Batman and possibly take his place."

His Role in the Movie

His role in the movie would have to be something to do with him being a mad genius and the fact that he knows who Batman is. One idea is for him to be employed by Wayne Enterprises to work in the company's Biotech facility. While working there he discovers the identity of Batman and threatens to reveal Bruce Wayne's secret. He is willing to sell the information to anyone who wants it, which is pretty much everyone who hates Batman! Could possibly be played by Paul Giamatti.

Who he'd be seen with

With the valuable information he holds he'd probably sell it to someone like Black Mask, The Riddler or The Penguin. Being a mad scientist, his plans usually involve medical and biological warfare so could possibly have help from the bandaged Hush.

5. Talia al Ghul

In her youth, Talia travels the world with her father (Ra's al Ghul) learning and adapting his intellect and skills which she proves to be more competent than any of Ghul's other children. She excels to the point in managing his criminal and legitimate operations, that she is eventually appointed as Ghul's primary secondary despite the fact that Ghul considers women to be inheritantly inferior to men. Talia excels in hand-to-hand combat and the use of weapons as well as having a high intelligence.

Her role in the movie

Talia al Ghul presents a perfect opportunity to become the new love interest of Batman in this film. She comes to town as an upper class citizen using her alias, Talia Head and aligns herself between Bruce Wayne's business affairs. She begins to seduce Bruce and they share some passionate moments although she is really after revenge. With the help of some other villain masterminds, she sets to destroy Batman. Though as her and Bruce get closer she regrets her decision to put a hit on him, though is it too late?

Who She'd be seen with
If she's after someone to kill Batman she may use someone such as the Black Mask, she could also be the lady between Bruce a a young Penguin.

4. Victor Zsasz

Victor Zsasz (referred to as Zsasz or Mr. Zsasz) is a serial killer and is a nemesis of Batman. He usually kills with a knife and carves a tally mark somewhere on himself for every victim .Zsasz was the head of his own international company and had amassed a large personal fortune in addition to his family's wealth. At the age of 25 his parents died in a boating accident, sending him into a deep depression. He turned to gambling, losing money in competitions around the world. One night, he gradually squandered his entire fortune, ultimately betting everything he owned against the Penguin at a Gotham casino. Zsasz lost; afterwards he saw that his life was empty, driven by desire, and there was no point to his existence.

His role in the Movie

Zsasz is a personal favourite of mine and I think he would be perfectly into the Nolan universe! Now Zsasz did briefly appear in Batman Begins (portrayed by Tim Booth) though that was only a small cameo, which didn't really capture the great essence of Zsasz. Of course he won't be the main villain but he would make a great side villain. First appearing in the beginning, bringing Batman back to Gotham, then maybe kidnapping someone close to Batman, finally appearing near the end as a henchman of the major villain. Zsasz truly is a scary, physiological character and would make a great addition to the next film! Tim Booth was fine as Zsasz but I could also see Ben Foster doing it.

Who he'd be seen with

Victor is kind of a solo guy so he wouldn't have too much interaction with other villains. He could have a little grudge on The Penguin as he indirectly caused Zsasz's depression. He could be hired by someone like Hugo Strange to complete various missions.

3. Black Mask

Roman Sionis, a former business executive who originally hated Bruce Wayne rather than Batman, wears a black wooden mask and leads the cult-like society of False Facers. Black Mask eventually became a mob boss controlling large sections of Gotham City's criminal underworld. Following the suspicious death of his multi-millionaire parents, Sionis had inherited their fortune and went on to bankrupt their company.Fixated the concept of masks, Sionis carved one from his mother's black coffin and sought revenge; his ensuing battle with the Dark Knight caused his mask to be burned into his skin, remaking him as the Black Mask. Sionis is now a feared gang leader and one of the most powerful mob bosses in Gotham, with a burning hatred for Batman.

His Role in the movie

Most defiantly a mob guy, Black Mask would be a perfect choice for the main villain in the film. He grew up just like Bruce Wayne, to a rich family though after tolls of tragedy, he ended up hated Bruce. In the film he could begin murdering members of Wayne enterprises, as in the comics. The black mask would originally be a mask but after a fight with Batman it gets permantly burned onto his face to become the Black Mask. The mob would be at his feet and he could have total control of Gotham, other villains at his feet!

Who he'd be seen with

He's the boss, so he'll be in charge of many villains such as The Ventriloquist. With Black Mask as the primary villain, Catwoman could easily become a good secondary villain.

2. Catwoman

Currently portrayed as an orphan who learned to survive on Gotham City's streets, Selina Kyle took to thievery to survive...but determined to do it in style, she learned martial arts and trained extensively to perfect her skills at cat burglary. Her criminal activities are often tempered by a reluctant altruism, making her an inconstant villain and occasional ally to Batman. She regularly eludes capture by the Dark Knight and maintains a complicated, adversarial relationship with Batman that frequently turns flirtatious and occasionally legitimately romantic.

Her role in the film

Now Catwoman is one of the most obvious villains to put in the next film as she's a major, well known Batman villain who hasn't been seen in Nolan's films yet plus she's a great love interest for Batman. It would be a great time to see the origins of Catwoman and her life into crime. A few clashes with Batman here and there as well as some Selina/Bruce moments would work well. As for casting it could be anyone from Angelina Jolie to Charlize Theron.

Who she'd be seen with

She'd probably start off as a solo villain though may develop with The Penguin and maybe a catfight with Talia al Ghul?

1. The Riddler

Known for his purple domino mask and green question mark-covered costume, either as a skintight catsuit or a business suit and bowler hat, the Riddler is obsessed with riddles, puzzles, and word games. He delights in forewarning police and Batman of his capers by sending them complex clues. Like most Batman villains, the Riddler has become a darker, more three-dimensional character in recent years. Whereas he was once portrayed as a playful but sane criminal trickster, he is now the victim of an intense obsessive compulsion.

His role in the film

The Riddler is the most likely villain in the next Batman film. He's a well known villain and he'd fit in well in the 'Nolanverse' so it's kind of inevitable! After a series of murders bring Batman back to Gotham, he begins receiving clues from the Riddler in relation to the murders. Batman must solve a series of complex riddles and problems to save Gotham from madness. That would probably be the basic plot and it would really work! For casting there has been many rumours but I think either Michael Emerson or Johnny Depp would be great!

Who he'd be seen with

Being the main villain he's be seen with a variety of villains. He could use Victor Zsasz to lure Batman back to Gotham, try to buy the identity of Batman off Hugo Strange and manipulate Catwoman to his liking... sweet!

I'm a big fan of Hugo Strange myself, but I think we're most likely to see someone audiences are already familiar with, like the Riddler and/or Catwoman.

Yeah I totally agree, bringing in the old characters everyone knows will appeal to the more older audiences as well. I hope there is a few good cameos here and there but I think Riddler/Catwoman is the way to go.

Nice, this done on Manga Studio? The line looks more organic than other dgaitil media, but still too 'clean' to be traditional. How have you still not seen Dark Knight? Mixed emotions about their portrayal of Two-Face(although Eckhart's Harvey Dent is brilliant), but there's no denying he looks phenomenal.I have the blue-ray version, we should watch it on the big LCD whenever you're up here. The sound transfer made my ears bleed. In a good way.
