10 Reasons Why The Cops on COPS Are Always Irritated When Making an Arrest

Cops do tough work every day and night.

Some COPS history

On this day, March 11, 1989, COPS, a documentary-style television series that follows police officers and sheriff’s deputies as they are doing their jobs, debuts on Fox. COPS not only scored big ratings in its debut, but went on to be one of the longest-running shows in television history. COPS was not staged or made from exaggerated stories from actual criminals who were arrested and now paroled.

COPS' creators were John Langley and Malcolm Barbour, and their new concept, a cops-related show was a pioneer in reality television. Crews armed with camcorders shadowed law enforcement officers on patrol, tracking down suspects and making arrests. The show was completely unscripted, which worked in Langley and Barbour’s favor when they pitched the original concept to Fox: At the time, a writers’ strike was well underway in Hollywood, and the network needed new programming that wouldn’t require writers.

Make no mistake. These guys and girls in uniform are every bit human with a compassion for certain criminals in circumstantial circumstances and for those who are caught in the middle of domestic disputes and other answered calls. COPS does an excellent job of showing the real cop on the beat, behind the wheel of his cruiser, and even making an error in the line of duty. John Langley and Malcolm Barbour have excelled in making COPS a real show with real people, cops.

But there is one area of COPS that mystifies me. And I pride myself in being a COPS-watcher since its debut. No, in all honesty, I do not agree with many of the police officer's calls, but I commend them for their vigilance and dedication.

The area of COPS that still remains a mystery to me is maybe found in one of these . . .

10 Reasons Why The Cops on COPS Are Always Irritated When Making an Arrest

10.) Some have just left their barber and the barber didn't get all of those little hairs off of the cop's neck.

9.) Having to leave a delicious lunch before it's all eaten. Note: on one episode I noticed a few what seemed to be crumbs from a taco on a cop's shirt.

8.) Maybe his wife had told them that morning that he "better not be late tonight" for it is their anniversary.

7.) The captain has just chewed their butt for talking rude to a biker gang member.

6.) Could be that the irritation was due to the cop arriving at the scene of the crime was due to clock-out only moments before he and his partner was dispatched to investigate this crime.

5.) Maybe the police officer was exhausted from having to run with almost 30 pounds of equipment on his belt. Note: take a moment next time you watch COPS and listen closely as the cop runs after his felon and you will hear the cop breathing hard and all of his equipment rubbing against his belt.

4.) The cop was just about to watch "Terminator: Genesys" for in all of the time this movie was released, tonight was the first time he had the chance to see it.

3.) The officer was taken back with the criminal's lack of answering his questions. Every answer from the felon was: "Uhhh, I don't know," "What crime?" and "Who are you?"

2.) The cop had just bought a pair of new shoes that morning and they are a tad too little.

1.) The police officer's partner has a problem with passing gas and didn't buy the Bean-o as his friend had heavily-suggested.

I could be right. I could be wrong in why most of the officers are irriated when they answer a call and then again, your guess is as good as mine.

"Although the majority of the text in this hub is of a comedy-nature, the work of any police officer is not. I want to commend every police officer in our country no matter their job or position on the force. You do a very important job for little credit. Thank you, to all of our fine policemen and policewomen. You are highly-appreciated."

Great Hub Kenneth and funny. Now that I think about it, the cops on COPS do seem pretty irritated. haha
