10 Songs of Life from Beginning to End?
And a lot of time in between.
I tend to use music to share with others. This is usually by having two or more lines pop into my head. Its amazing how often others will ask me what is that song? Who sings that song? Its scary most of the time I am clueless. My usual response is one moment while I Google it. But you sang it note for note, and you don't know the song? Yup true most of the time.
In the good news the music that's listed on this site I know the titles and more than one or two lines. Hay I even know the artists. OK so I couldn't always spell them right.
But when it comes to some of these songs I can say I was actually moved by them to the point of tears. Some of them I feel like I have lived through and others Its almost like I wrote them they were that close to home.
Some songs are from my life and growing up. But you will know those when you read further with the descriptions for each of the 10 songs.
Elton John - The Greatest Discovery
For a few years we had two kids. A daughter and a son. A few years later our third child was born. Yes a son. When you listen to the song you will see why this song means so much and made the top of the list.
Harry Chapin - Cat's In The Cradle
I remember hearing this song when I was a little kid. In fact I remember seeing Cat Stevens on a talk show. At that time there was a little boy. Sorry I am not sure if it was his son or maybe the hosts son but they had to talk to the little boy to encourage him. You see he was crying because he really did not want to hear this song.
Now being the dad I am sometimes not sure if I am spending enough time at home. Yes I was a stay at home dad for a few years but the issue is that was then this is now.
Acapella - Rocking Song
Growing up we had a rocking chair in the house. I remember my mom and dad rocking us kids. My Grandfather also had a rocking chair that I remember him in. I know this is going in the opposite direction as the song but They were both used to rock the kids and grand kids in. Just like this song. This song makes me feel like when it was written it was about us kids. Meaning my sister and I.
Tim McGraw - Don't Take The Girl
To start out with, I did not know my wife when we were kids. How ever I met her when she was a senior in high school and we now have three kids. In the good news we have three kids. I thank God that we did not have to worry about her of the kids not living through the child birth. Needless to say after 23 years this year of marriage it was hard to picture my life without her.
Terry Jacks - Seasons In The Sun
There is a story behind this one. When I was younger our family rented a mobile home and drove to Florida. We went to Disney with Space Mountain under construction. And the Kenedy Space Center when the Shuttle was just being designed. On board there was an 8-track player. My dad's brother / our uncle did up a tape for us. We were call rug rats. There was one song that has stuck in my mind all these years and this is the one. That is why I included it.
Rosey Grier - It's All Right to Cry
And you are saying to yourself how does this fit in with the subject of this page? The answer is easily. The reason being that it doesn't matter your age or who you are. There are times when there is a need for tears.
- Child birth - both mom and dad tears of pain and tears of joy.
- Child hood - from a skinned knee to a tooth coming out to many more things.

- Any time - words to music - OK that is more me usually when this happens I will memorize the song because it has touched me so much.
Bob Carlisle - Butterfly Kisses
When your first child is a daughter this song hits close to home. When you are / were a stay at home dad it is hits even closer. Add to that you see her first steps... Sorry dad tearing up. She is now 17 and driving. Good news not dating. Yes I am the dad and am not looking forward to her first date.
As a side note when I was in college (1986) I was part of a rifle team. I still have my rifle team jacket. My mom is trying to have me get rid of it. Sorry mom but until your grand daughter is marierd or even later this jacket will still be hanging by the door.
Simon and Garfunkel - Old Friends
Its amazing the amount of people we meet through out our lives. The importaint question is how Its amazing the amount of people we meet through out our lives.
