American Idol 2011 Top 3 - Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart
May 19, 2011 - Top 3 Results Night - HALEY ELIMINATED
Omg! Omg! Omg! 95 million votes came in last night. 95 million! Ryan said it was the highest non-finale votes in American Idol history. America really wanted their favorite to go to the finale.
First, we saw a video of Haley's hometown visit in Chicago, Illinois.
Then, the teenage Italian tenors IL Volo performed "O Sole Mio." I really enjoyed it. These kids are so adorable.
Next, we watched Scotty's hometown visit in Garner, North Carolina. Scotty is a very emotional kid. He was simply overwhelmed that his hometown went all out to show their love and support. His mother said that she and Scotty spent most of the day crying. There was even a big sign post in front of his house saying "Scotty for President."
Next, we watched Nicole and 50 cent new video "Right There."
Next, we watch Lauren's hometown visit in Tennessee and in Rossville, Georgia. It was very sad for Lauren to see the devastation caused by the recent tornado to her hometown.
Then, Ryan called Haley, Scotty and Lauren to the stage to find out who will be in the finale.... after the break.
After the break, the Top 3 semifinalists were back on stage with Ryan.
Ryan announced the first one who will be in the finale is.......... Scotty! The audience exploded. Scotty was so happy. He hugged Lauren. He hugged Haley. He even hugged Ryan. His parents hugged each other.. they were so happy and proud of their son. The judges were happy. Scotty's hometown Garner, NC must be overjoyed for their hometown idol.
Then, it was between Haley and Lauren. Ryan started "And the one to compete against Scotty in the finale is..........." The silence was deafening. Ryan took forever and a day to announce which one was going to the finale. The audience started screaming the name they wanted to hear. The judges were holding their breath. Haley and Lauren were nervously awaiting their fate, hoping, praying to hear their name.
Then, Ryan said "is......... Lauren!" Again, the audience exploded. Lauren was so happy. Haley's jaw dropped to the floor. She was stunned.
Ryan sent Lauren to where Scotty was. Scotty and Lauren hugged each other. They were both so happy for each other.
Haley recovered. She chose to sing "Bennie and the Jets" for her farewell performance. It was an awkward performance. We could all feel her disappointment. She was screaming "This is not the end. It's just the beginning." It sounded like a threat. She was laughing. An empty laughter.
Tonight, Haley Reinhart's American Idol journey ended. Haley got eliminated tonight.
So there you go... SCOTTY and LAUREN in the finale next week. Remember it is not Wednesday and Thursday next week. It will to be TUESDAY Performance Night and WEDNESDAY Finale. (May 24 and 25, 2011).
GOODBYE TO HALEY REINHART
May 18, 2011 - Wednesday Top 3 Performances
Wow! What a great night! Three performances each from our American Idol 2011 Top 3. That must have been really difficult as there were some mishaps. Haley's new shoes caused her to fall on the steps. You could hear the the audience and judges (ok, me too) say "Ooops!" in unison. But Haley got up as fast as she had fallen and, as far as I could tell, didn't miss a beat. Whatta pro! Then there was Lauren forgetting her lyrics, or was it a beat. Jennifer pointed it out really nicely by saying Lauren was caught in the moment. And Scotty? Oh Scotty was perfect!
Mutiple Grammy award winner Beyonce was the guest mentor. She did her best in giving the Top 3 semifinalists some advice, but nothing really new. I'll hate myself in the morning by saying this, but Lady Gaga did a much better job in mentoring the contestants. Beyonce looked uncomfortable. Oh well. I think she was just forced to show up to promote her new video. Again, oh well.
Let's get on with the show, shall we?
ROUND #1 - CONTESTANT CHOICE
Round #1 is contestant's choice of what they are going to sing. Here are their choices.
Round #1 - Scotty McCreery was first on stage.
Scotty picked "Amazed" by Lonestar.
Steven praised Scotty for showing a little anger. Pardon me? He said that Scotty keeps getting better and it was beautiful. Steven said that Scotty took the song up a notch.
Jennifer said great way to start the show and talked about how Scotty has grown over the weeks. She felt the bravado in Scotty's performance.
Randy gave Scotty credit on his song choices.. very smart and added "That's money there!"
My two cents: I don't think it was one of Scotty's better performances. But it was really really good. I didn't feel nor see any anger in Scotty's performance as Steven said.
Round #1 - Lauren Alaina was next.
Lauren chose "Wild One" by Faith Hill.
Jennifer gushed "Our little baby," and said it was very good.
Randy said nice song choice, very nice. He thought Lauren looked like she was having a good time, and that's what matters.
Steven loved it. He said Lauren had a shining moment tonight and that American is ready for Lauren and Lauren is ready for America.
My two cents: I think the judges are nuts! But I love the flower in Lauren's hair. They are earrings - so cool. Perfect for teens!
Round #1 - Haley Reinhart was last to perform.
Haley picked "What Is and What Will Never Be" by Led Zeppelin. Haley brought her dad, who is a guitarist, to accompany her. I can see where Haley got her good looks. Dad is almost as gorgeous as the daughter. Whoo!
Randy said "Yo, man" and continued that that is what it is all about. Fearless, crazy vocals, Haley's best performance EVER! Haley is in it to win it!
Steven asked if Haley's fall was for him and said it was so so good.
Jennifer said she had fallen on stage, too, and so did Beyonce. It happens. She applauded Haley for getting up after the fall like a professional. Really really good. Very good round for Haley
My two cents: Haley and her dad rock! Haley was outstanding, with the fall and all.
Who won Round #1?
Randy said hands down - Haley.
Jennifer said - Haley.
Steven said - Haley.
I say Haley did!
ROUND #2 - JIMMY IOVINE'S CHOICE
Jimmy was in the audience, beaming like a proud papa. He was dressed very casually, and Ryan ribbed Jimmy for dressing up for the show. Jimmy was seated beside Neil Sedaka. I didn't recognize Neil. He put on a little weight. Ok, a lot.
Round #2 - Scotty McCreery is again first on stage.
For Scotty, Jimmy picked "Are You Going to Kiss Me Or Not?" by Thompson Square. Scotty brought his guitar.
Steven said he never heard the chorus sang like that before. Beautiful. Nice going.
Jennifer said there were so many Scotty moments. She said that Scotty was in the zone and feels so comfortable on stage that he makes everyone comfy too. And requested Scotty to shave his head off for the finale. (Jennifer didn't really mean for Scotty to shave off his head, she meant cut his hair really short just like when they first met him at his audition in Milwaukee. She said Scotty looked so adorable with his short hair and rosy cheeks. SHDC, meaning "short hair don't care")
Randy said Jimmy picked a perfect song for Scotty. He said Garth is a great performer, and Scotty is approaching that level of performance. Randy said "Yo, Scotty.." and Ryan finished it "Scotty is in it to win it!"
My two cents: I love this kid! I agree with Randy. It was a perfect song for Scotty. It was a very very entertaining performance. Please ignore Jennifer's comment about Scotty being in the finale. See what happened to James?
Round #2 - Lauren Alaina was next.
For Lauren, Jimmy picked "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry. During the break, there was a girl disaster.. Lauren's nylons rippped! As it was a live show, the show must go on, so the camera came back rolling with an assistant putting makeup and shimmer on Lauren's legs.
Jennifer said Lauren has the most beautiful tone of all the finalists. Lauren had "an honest moment." It was beautiful.
Randy said Lauren has such a beautiful voice. He praised Jimmy for his song selection for Lauren, and praised Lauren for being able to recover after her "honest moment." Emotionally flawless. Lauren is definitely in it to win it.
Steven said it was a beautiful song, beautiful voice, "You nailed it!"
My two cents: It was a wee bit uncomfortable seeing Lauren lost in "her moment." But I agree with the judges, it was such a beautiful performance, "honest moment" and all.
Round #2 - Haley Reinhart was again last to perform.
For Haley, Jimmy selected "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac. The wind machine was turned on to give Haley the diva look.
Randy said perfect pitch. He said Haley cracks him up as he doesn't know where Haley will go, but he noticed the somber moment.
Steven said so beautiful. She played it well.
Jennifer said beautiful moment, but she thought Haley could have brought it up more at the end. But nevertheless, very pretty, beautiful moment.
My two cents: I didn't like Jimmy's song selection for Haley. Haley did her usual seduction technique, a lot of it as a matter of fact, so much so that it didn't seem natural. Haley did good but not great.
Who won Round #2?
Steven said - Lauren.
Jennifer said - Scotty.
Randy said - Scotty.
I say Scotty won it hands down.
ROUND #3 - JUDGES' CHOICE
Before Round #3, we witnessed the world premiere of Beyonce's new video "Run The World." Girl power - cool! I enjoyed the dancing and choreography.
The judges' song selections were text to each one while visiting their hometown. Tomorrow during the results show, we are going to see some videos of the Top 3's visits - Haley's rainy day, Lauren's happy moments, and Scotty's very emotional moments.
Round #3 - Scotty McCreery was again first on stage.
For Scotty, the judges picked "She Believes in Me" by Kenny Rogers. Why? The judges wanted to see what Scotty could do with the chorus.
Steven said big chorus and said "You put it over the top, man."
Jennifer said big chorus. Good job, baby. So proud of you.
Randy said so sweet. Very nicely done.
My two cents: I think the judges' song choice is way too old for Scotty. It's about a guy coming home to his wife/girlfriend/partner after a hard day at work. What were they thinking? The kid is 17! But Scotty did a wonderful job. So wonderful. I'm a sappy for love songs.
Round #3 - Lauren Alaina is next.
For Lauren, the judges picked "I Hope You Dance" by LeAnn Womack.
Jennifer tried to show the goosies she got with Lauren's performance. Beautiful. Beautiful.
Randy said LeAnn would be proud, and Lauren slayed it. He loved the singing, he loved the dress, he loved the color, he loved everything.
Steven said Lauren walked like she owned the Grand Ole Opry, and made LeAnn happy. Lauren made him happy.
My two cents: I think now that James is gone, Steven has transferred all his affections to Lauren. But really, Lauren has a very beautiful voice, and the kid is only 16. I think it was a very sweet performance.
Round #3 - Haley was again last to perform.
For Haley, the judges selected "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette.
Randy said "Yo, listen man." Called America on Haley's amazing chorus, and again proclaimed that Haley is in it to win it. (actually Ryan said it for Randy)
Steven spewed lots of superlatives like perfect, amazing, incredible, beautiful.
Jennifer gave her praises as well. The chorus was beautiful.
My two cents: There was something wrong with Haley's performance. Either she didn't like the judges' song choice so just get over it, or she was off tonight. This must be the worst of Haley's performances. Ok, worst might be a tad strong. But the performance was definitely lacking the "Haley moments."
Who won Round #3?
Steven said - Lauren, you slayed me tonite.
Jennifer said - Haley
Randy said - Lauren won this round.
I say Lauren did a wonderful job. Lauren definitely won this round.
So there you go... Haley won Round #1, Scotty won Round #2, and Lauren slayed Round #3. Whoo Hoo! Can't wait how America voted. Who will be in the finale next week?
Oh BTW, next week performance night is Tuesday and the finale is Wednesday. So remember, Tuesday and Wednesday, not Wednesday and Thursday.
May 16, 2011 - Weekend update
After a much welcomed visit to their hometowns, American Idol Top 3 semifinalists - Scotty, Lauren and Haley - have returned to the Idol studios in Los Angeles working really hard. Each of the Top 3 will be singing three wide open songs for us on Wednesday Top 3 performance show.
The song choices for each of our Top 3 will be as follows:
- One song is producer Jimmy Iovine’s selection,
- one from the judges’ panel, and
- the third will be a personal selection by each semifinalist.
So far, the alleged song selections for each of the Top 3 presumably from the judges are:
- Scotty McCreery - “She Believes In Me” by Kenny Rogers
- Haley Reinhart - “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette
- Lauren Alaina - “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack
Guest Performers this week
Then on Thursday's results night, we will find out whose Idol journey will continue and whose Idol journey will end.
The guest performers on Thursday night will be Italian teenage trio tenors IL Volo performing “O Sole Mio,” as well as Nicole Scherzinger and 50 Cent performing their new video “Right There.”
I am not going to venture into any predictions for this week on whose American Idol dream is going to be shattered to pieces. I love all the Top 3 semifinalists and I don't want to jinx anyone. Each one deserves a medal or something to have survived this far in the competition. Each one has worked really hard and, considering their young age, has shown remarkable maturity, showmanship and improvement. May they all have a very successful singing careers.
As we had witnessed in the past weeks, anyone could be eliminated. Online "rumours" are the southern votes will split between Scotty and Lauren. James being gone, those who are not fond of country music will be voting for Haley, making it either Scotty or Lauren the one to get eliminated this week. Well, as I had said, those are just "rumours."
So, It's up to you America.
Here are the American Idol 2011 Top 3 Semifinalists
Haley's Milwaukee Audition
Haley Reinhart, 20
Hailey Reinhart is a student currently living Wheeling, Ilinois, but is originally from Palatine, Illinois. We first saw Haley in Milwaukee where she auditioned and she got three yeses from the judges.
She sailed through Hollywood week and came out a winner in Vegas.
I have liked Haley from the beginning. I love her style and vocals. She is the whole package - beauty and talent. But Haley had a very slow start and had been in the bottom 3 four times. You got to give it to Haley, she doesn’t take the insults and criticism negatively. She has this "whatever will be, will be" attitute. And the last couple of weeks, she's just killing it. Last Wednesday night, Haley showed everyone why she is still in the competition. She brought the house down and got another standing ovation from the judges. However, for the first time, Haley didn't take Randy's and Jennifer's criticism lightly. Actually, she got PO'd.
Here's a look back at Haley during her audition in Milwaukee and last week's inspirational performance of "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson.
