Youtube isn't just for cats anymore...

Welcome to a brief audio/visual tour of a musical treasure. For the past 6 months or so I have been aware of the musical exploits of a business based out of St. George Utah (that is just a hour drive North of Las Vegas Nevada for those of you who don't know where it is). Featuring the musical talents of Jon Schmidt (piano) and Steven Sharp Nelson (cello) among others combined with really fun and fresh music and amazing camera work, the work they do comes out as wonderfully professional and awe inspiring. There have been times when tears were brought to my eyes. I am not the weepy sort.

The Nativity

Initially started as a means to advertise for the Piano Guys piano sales business, this project evolved into so much more than that. As of the writing of this article, the Piano Guys have a following of over 50,000 people on facebook and over 96,000 subscribers on youtube for their channel. They originally started with brief musical features by guest artists in musical scores from the Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter and then matured into the deeper pieces they have recently been producing. In every case, the sound quality and cinematography of the videos are awesome.

Maturing

As their youtube and social network channels matured they began doing things like covers of the popular song by Adele, Rolling in the Deep and having guest appearances in an old folks home in St. George to liven up the day for the residences. You can tell from their bloopers and the videos themselves that these guys are having tons of fun!

Conclusions and Beginnings

I am not paid to promote these guys and I wouldn't accept their money in any case. The reason I write this is that The Piano Guys have caught my imagination and heart with their magic and music to the point that I think everyone should have a chance to enjoy them and they can since youtube is free. Personally, I think spending a few minutes watching and listening to their music beats time in front of the idiot box or watching cats do silly things. I've shared on my facebook page every time a new video comes out, but what better way to let people know about them then through a review? I hope you've enjoyed this short look at their work. Please feel free to enjoy more and let me know what you think about them.

My son and I are both professional musicians. Randy is a bassist and Luthier for string instruments and I am a vocalist and pianist. I only mention this because I just watched every video and want to bring an air of credibility to my evaluation of these outstanding musicians.

I have seen some of the best musicians perform in my lifetime - but nothing like this. I know my son will really like it when he sees it as well.

These "guys" are truly amazing and the cinematography and sound is excellent. I would like to feature them on my website.

I thank you so much for introducing these rare musicians to me. I will subscribe to their videos. I am forwarding this hub to many of my advanced students and others who I know will enjoy it. What a gift!
