Shoujo anime are typically marketed to girls between the ages of 10 and 18, but I really enjoy it too. These are my favorite shoujo anime to watch. There are so many good ones, on all different subjects, but in my opinion, these are the best. Note: this list is in no particular order.

Let me know what you think in the comments section below!

Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon is a classic. If you haven't watched it yet, the story is about a ditzy girl (Usagi Tsukino) and her four smart companions. Together they fight the Dark Kingdom. Alongside the five girls is a charming guy with a tuxedo mask who helps them along the way. He is also Tsukino's love interest. The best part is that he always has a rose with him.

In 2014 a new series, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal was released to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary.

Vampire Knight

Vampire Knight is kind of the Twilight of anime. The female protagonist, Yuki, is attacked by one vampire but is then saved by another. Of course, the rescuer vampire is charming and good looking. He also protects a well-respected king of the vampire kingdom. I am not going to spoil the plot for you. This is definitely a good watch.

Yumeiro Patissiere

A clumsy 14-year-old girl (Ichigo Amano) who is not particularly talented at anything but eating sweet stuff and cakes, is recruited to attend the St. Marie Academy to become a baker. There she meets three Sweet Princes who help her adjust to life in the academy. It is a fun and interesting anime, to say the least.

Peach Girl

This anime is packed with drama. Momo Adachi is a swimmer with tan skin and bleached hair. She gets labeled as an "easy" girl who sleeps around. It turns out that it's her "best friend" who spreads these rumors around behind her back. Momo then meets a playboy who wants to seduce her. Meanwhile, Momo's best friend likes the playboy. You see the drama?

Skip Beat

The female lead of Skip Beat (Kyoko) is betrayed by a guy after doing everything she can to help him become a huge celebrity. Angered by his betrayal, Kyoko vows to become famous herself and get revenge. The series is fun to watch because Kyoko's character changes along the way and finds a new direction.

Lucky Star

This is more "slice of life" than shoujo, but it is still an excellent anime to watch. The story revolves around four high school girls and their daily life. Most girls will be able to relate to this anime and it is also funny. The main protagonist is the opposite of a good girl. She is super lazy, skips school, and spends time watching anime and playing video games.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama

This is one of my favorite anime. Misaki Ayuzawa is the school council president at a school where the boys terrorize the girls. She is a shining savior for girls, but the twist is that even though she is tough she also works as a maid. The story gets interesting when a popular boy from the school discovers Misaki's secret.

Cardcaptor Sakura

This very popular magical girl series from the 1990s rivaled Sailor Moon. Ten-year-old girl Sakura opens a book that allows magical cards to escape into the real world. She has to retrieve them all, as they are extremely powerful, but it isn't an easy job.

Special A

Special A has a mix of rivalry and romance. The female lead (Hikari Hanazono) comes in second to a boy, Kei Takishima, in everything she does. With her competitive nature, she works really hard to try to beat him in sports and academics. The funny part is that she is so blinded by desire to beat him that she does not realize that Kei actually likes her . . . a lot.

Behold ladies! This is an eye candy series with cute boys to enjoy along with the story. When I saw the poster for this series I wasn't that impressed. I was so wrong. The series revolves around four swimmers who knew each other in elementary school. They reunite after parting ways. The writers of this show definitely delivered what female fans want along with an excellent story. Well done!

This list is incomplete without Revolutionary Girl Utena, which completely turned shoujo on its head when it was released. It doesn't get called "The Evangelion of Shoujo" for nothing. Everything else just seems formulaic in comparison.

Except for the fact that they both contain vampires, Twilight and Vampire Knight are nothing alike. And I say that as a fan of both those series, so...

Bruhh. Inuyasha? It's a classic! Best Shoujo anime ever! It's got everything; a useful lead, action sequences, irritating love triangles and awesome villains!

I don't know why nobody appreciates Fushigi Yuugi. For me, it's the best among them.
