Best Super Hero Films of 2012: Featuring the new trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Although I know I'm early this year, I decided to finally publish some of my preview hubs starting this month. Unlike year's past, I've taken the liberty to categorize these movie previews into perspective categories; versus last year where you could find the preview to "The Change-Up" on the same article as "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

I feel this will better help my readers scan through and find films that may interest them a lot better. Like last year, the film previews will have a brief summary along with cast listings. Plus, you can expect the release dates listed on there too for good measure. In addition to all the casting information and rating, I'll also be providing a few trailers. Granted, not all movies are going to have trailers on these hubs, but I will be adding more videos, as they're released to go along with the films mentioned. That's why I strongly encourage anyone to visit these hubs frequently until the end of December 31, 2011, as that will be the final day when I stop adding videos to these preview hubs for 2012. Anyway, to kick off our preview hub series, we have the superhero films on deck.

It's been no secret that superhero movies are the current craze these days in Hollywood, and next year should be an exciting year for them as we not only have a reboot of Spider-Man coming up, but we'll finally be treated to the long anticipated "Avengers" movie as well. Plus, there's Nolan's final Batman movie to look forward to along with many others. Unfortunately, due to recent production delays, the new Superman reboot and "Wolverine" won't be coming out in 2012, as previously expected. Therefore, if you're wondering why those films aren't mentioned here, then that's essentially the reason why. However, if any news comes out within the near future to suggest otherwise, then you can expect them to be added to this hub soon; hence another reason to keep checking back here until the end of the 2011 year. Anyway, let's get down to business shall we.

Take in mind that some of these release dates are subject to change, so be sure to check your local listings for further details.

Update #1: According to recent sources, it turns out that the "Lone Ranger" will be heading to theaters next year after all.

Update #2: In recent news, it looks like "The Lone Ranger" will be delayed after all, due to scheduling issues. It's new release date is May 31, 2013 instead. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and I'll be sure to keep this hub updated if there's any changes.

i just saw warrior and i thought it was really good. Tom Hardy was a beast in it, i kept thinking bout how perfect he is in the role of Bane and i'm so much more excited for the Batman movie now.

Im ready to see Batman got knocked around quite a bit lol

I'm most looking forward to The Avengers, G.I. Joe, The Dark Knight Rises, and possibly The Amazing Spiderman and Dredd. I think I'll pass on Ghost Rider.

Well since Karl Urban has even admitted to being a fan of the character, and everything that I've read on Dredd up to this point only goes to show that this reboot will definitely kick-ass. If anything, I have a feeling Dredd will probably surprise a lot of people next year if you ask me. Still not sure about GI joe though, as I just hope it's better than the last movie we got.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by again buddy, as it's always great to see you. :)

Your welcome, and thank you for stopping by. :)

lol. Wow, your lucky, as I still haven't seen Warrior yet. It should be interesting to see how it turns out, as I think Tom Hardy is going to be a great Bane. Now all we need is to see Anne Hathaway in the Catwoman costume, and we'll be all set to see how this movie plays out. lol. Anyway, thanks for stopping by again.

Well I'm looking forward to all those films too...except for GI Joe, and I actually do want to see Ghost Rider. lol. However, it'll be interesting to see how these films turn out. Anyway, thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts with us. :)

@the reminder

Yeah, I hope so too. However, since it seems that Karl Urban is a huge fan of the original comic book series, then it can't possibly be any worse. Anyway, thanks again for reading my hub, as it's always great to see you buddy. :)

@Rose West

I agree. It should be epic. I think in terms of box office revenue, I think the Avengers will probably make the most money out of all these films listed, but I think "The Dark Knight Rises" will probably have the best story among all these films. Of course, I could be wrong, but this is just my theory. Anyway, thanks for reading my hub. :)

Well, i think Anne Hathaway will be a great catwoman as well. I think she definitively has the look (especially the eyes). i just saw drive to and it made me think that ryan gosling should have been Hal Jordan

Stevennix2001 profile image

Stevennix2001 5 years ago Author

Ryan Gosling as Hal Jordan? Hm..that's a lot better than who I would've cast, as I always thought Chris Pine should've been cast for the part. Oh well. I think Anne Hathaway will play a great Catwoman too, but I'm still curious to see what her full costume will look like though. I know they've released photos of her in the movie already, but she claims that the leather outfit she has in those photos is only a tenth of what the actual costume will look like, so I'm kind of curious.

Plus, I know imdb has this one child actress named Joey King playing a young Talia Al Ghul, so it should be interesting to see how this turns out. Then again, they also had Olivia Wilde listed as Iron Maiden in "Iron Man 2", and that turned out to be a load of B.S. Therefore, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

im pretty sure it was confirmed that Marion Cotilard is Talia Al Ghul. if not confirmed it is known at the least.

but yeh i was pleasantly surprised with Drive. I never thought much of Ryan Gosling, but he definetly did a fantastic job in the movie. I always thought he certainly looked the part of Hal Jordan, and now i know for sure he could act. To bad the studios went with Ryan Reynolds just because he is much more marketable.

Stevennix2001 profile image

Stevennix2001 5 years ago Author

Actually, Talia Al Ghul's appearance isn't confirmed, as many sites have Marion Cotilard consistently saying that her character is entirely new, and has nothing to do with Talia; although Nolan has yet to deny or confirm said statements and rumors.

As for Ryan Reynolds, I don't know about that. From what I've researched, he won that part fair and square, as he did have to compete with other actors for that part like Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper; therefore I don't know if that statement you said would hold any water. Of course, if you had said that about Chris Evans, then I might have an easier time swallowing that one, as I know he didn't even have to audition for Cap. No, he just walked into a room, and saw the concept artwork, and said.."Cool." Thus, he was hired! lol. I'm not making this up either, as this is literally how Marvel Studios hired him for Captain America. lol.

Nickalooch profile image

Nickalooch 5 years ago from Columbia, MD

i know Evans was at first hesitant to take the part though. Yeah i know all that about Ryan Reynolds, i just think they made a mistake but im glad they choose him over Cooper and Timberlake. I'm just saying i think Gosling would have been the better way to go for GL.

As far as Talia, i may be wrong but i'm expecting a curveball in this film. I think Cotilard or Joseph Gordon-Levitt's characters will be that curveball.

Stevennix2001 profile image

Stevennix2001 5 years ago Author

I don't disagree with you either about Joseph and Cotilard's characters being curve balls, as Nolan hasn't really confirmed or denied rumors regarding their characters; which makes me believe he's hiding something about them. Plus, it wouldn't be the first time he did that with Batman.

As far Ryan Gosling, I agree with you. He's a very good actor, and he probably would've been much better suited to play GL than Ryan Reynolds. Although to be fair, I don't think the film was bad because of him, as there was a lot of things wrong with that movie. I think the main problem with Green Lantern is that I don't think the writers and director of that film really knew what they wanted from it. Sure, they had a great set up for a superhero film with Hal facing off against Hector Hammond, but at the same time, they were trying to incorporate this almost godlike entity parallax as well into the mix. I think in GL's case it would've worked better if they had focused the film more on Hal learning how to use his powers and inevitably meeting up with the GL corpse by the end of the movie. Then they could have used the sequel to fully introduce Hal into the Corpse without rushing through it. Plus, I think a long narration explaining the Corpse history would've also helped audiences understand it better ala "Lord of the Rings." Oh well. what can you do right? lol.

Nickalooch profile image

Nickalooch 5 years ago from Columbia, MD

I can continue to make the GL film the butt of a lot of my jokes on here. lol. i agree Reynolds wasn't the problem to lol, the problem was the writing and the directing.

That's true. Although it could've been worse? They could've cast Shaquille O'Neal to voice Kilowog instead of Michael Clarke Duncan. lol.

omg not the lone ranger. I never got the appeal the first time around

Stevennix2001 profile image

Stevennix2001 5 years ago Author

Not to mention that the Lone Ranger is long outdated, and hasn't been a part of pop culture for decades. The last time I checked, most superheroes that have that going against them like "The Shadow", "Phantom", and "The Spirit" typically don't do that well in the box office. I guess they figured since Johnny Depp is playing Tonto that he'll make all the difference. Of course, I don't see how unless he's supposed to be the main character, and the whole movie is told from a third person perspective of the Lone Ranger; which might be interesting. However, I guess we'll have to wait and see. Anyway, thanks for stopping by to read my preview hub. :)

The avengers trailer is soooo awesome and I cant wait for ghost rider!!!!

Stevennix2001 profile image

Stevennix2001 5 years ago Author

Me neither. Although I'm still not sold from what I saw of the trailer for "Ghost Rider 2", but it should be interesting, as I heard they went with a hard "Pg 13" approach similar to "Dark Knight", so it should be good.

As for the "Avengers", all I can say is that out of all the trailers that I have here, that one looks by far the best. Seriously, I wasn't really that stoked to see it, as most people. However, after watching that trailer, I can't wait to see it. I just hope it isn't one of those films where they show you all the good stuff in the trailer, while giving you bleh in the rest of it like "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." lol. Anyway, I'm glad you liked the new trailer buddy, and thanks again for stopping by.

who is going to see Mission Impossible 4 solely for the 15 min prologue to TDKR....*Nick slowly raises his hand*

lol. Well, I'm still sort of on the fence about that one to be honest. But then again, a chance to see the prologue does sound rather tempting. lol.

me and my friend may walk out right after the prologue after a round of applause lol

id walk in to see the prologue. then go see Girl with a Dragon Tattoo or Sherlock Holmes. Then rush home and write a review for the prologue and the movie lol

Hoping the new Ghost Rider will be better than the first movie. G.R. is a great character and the last flick didn't do him justice at all.

lol. That sounds like a good plan to me. lol.

Yeah, same here. I didn't think the last movie was too bad, as the only thing that made it seem weak was it's poor characterization of the villains, and some of their rather weak motives. I think if they can somehow make the villains seem more like a threat, then I think the next movie might be a lot better, but we'll have to wait and see. Anyway, thanks for stopping by.
