Movies Released in the first half of 2013

The first 6-months report card of Bollywood movie releases is not very encouraging. In the first six month period from January to June 2013 saw only two major blockbuster movies such as “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” and “Aashiqui 2”. “Race 2” fell below expectation, doing moderately success at the box office.

“Chashme Buddoor” can be considered hit, as the movie did not have any big stars, expect the director David Dhawan. The much hyped movie “Himmatwala” fell flat at the box office, despite director Sajid Khan with star cast lead by Ajay Devgan & Tamannaah.

High Expectation in 2nd Half of 2013

The expectations are high in the second half of year 2013. With some big budget movies with bigger star cast are expected to be released. “Bhaag Mikha Bhaag”, a bio-picture on Mikha Singh is epxecte to arrive in July. “Ramaiya Vastavaiya” by Prabhudeva is expected to hit the screen soon which will launch Girish Kumar Taurani who is son of producer Kumar S. Taurani – one of the partners of Tips Industries (largest corporate house for Music and producing films).

“Chennai Express” is expected to release during Eid Holidays in August. The movie can be called as one of the ‘most awaited movies of the year’! It stars Shah Rukh Khan & Deepika Padukone, directed by Rohit Shetty. Rohit has given successive successful movies in the recent past. The trailer is already creating enough buzz to make it a super duper hit. ‘Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai Dobara’ is another expected to do good at the box office as it sequel to hit ‘Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai’ from Ekta Kapoor.

Hindi movies to look out for in 2013

Some interest is there for ‘Bullet Raja’ as the movie starring Saif Ali Khan & Sonakshi Sinha. Sonakshi considered as lucky mascot. All her movies are doing good at the box office, since her debut in 2010. Ranbir Kapoor is considered as the next super star in Hindi films. His movie ‘Besharam’ already creating buzz and expected to release in October 2013. ‘Ragini MMS 2’ too are expected to do good at the box office. It is sequel to ‘Ragini MMS’. Sunny Leone will play the lead in ‘Ragini MMS 2’.

The other ‘most awaited movies’ of 2013 are ‘Krrish 3’ starring Hrithik Roshan and ‘Dhoom 3’ starring Aamir Khan. Both the movies are third film in the respective series. Their earlier sequels were mega hits at the box office and greater expectation are placed these movies.

Lootera (releasing on 5 July 2013)

Lootera star cast is lead by very successful Sonakshi Sinha. Sonakshi has already given blockbuster such as her debut ‘Dabangg’, followed it up with ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘Son of Sardaar’ and ‘Dabangg 2’. All these movies have done a 100-crore businesses at the box office. Ranveer Singh is playing the male lead opposite her.

It is romantic movies, loosely inspired by the short story ‘The Last Leaf’ by O. Henry. The story of two lovers is set in 1953 year.

'Lootera' collects Rs.19 crore in its first week - as per the Trade analyst Taran Adarsh's tweet this morning.

Policegiri (releasing on 5 July 2013)

Policegiri is remake of Tamil film ‘Saamy’. ‘Saamy’ was box office success when it was released in 2003. K.S. Ravikumar is making his debut in directing a Hindi movie. Ravikumar is already a popular and successful director down South India and have worked in Kamal, Rajni and all the super stars of South India.

Policegiri will significant as this will be first movie releasing after its hero Sanjay Dutt is jailed.

Prakash Raj and Prachi Desai are other leads in the movie. We have to wait and watch if the movie does the same magic as it did in Tamil original.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (releasing 12 July 2013)

Bhaag Mikha Bhaag is being produced and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The movie is biographical movie based on athlete Milkha Singh. The story is sold by Milkha Singh for just one rupee (less than 1 cent). Prasoon Joshi has written the script. The proceeds of the movie will give to needy athlete.

Farhan Akhtar is playing the role of Milkha Singh. The promo and poster are very encouraging. A good movie is on the cards.

Bhajathe Raho (releasing on 19 July 2013)

‘Bhajathe raho’ is directed by Shashant Shah. The movie stars Tusshar Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Ravi Kishan, Vinay Pathak and Dolly Ahluwalia. This is Shashant Shah’s third movie as director and his earlier two films already flopped at the box office.

D-Day (releasing on 19 July 2013)

D-Day is releasing on 19 July 2013. Another movie based on Dawood Ibrahim and the news on his extraction. Nikhil Advani is directing the movie, whose debut film ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ in 2003 was super hit movie. His subsequent movies did not fared well at the box office.

The movie impressive star cast of Irrafan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Shruti Haasan, Huma Quesh.

Ship of Theseus

Another movie releasing on 19 July is ‘Ship of Theseus’ directed and written by Anand Gandhi staring Vinay Shukla. The film has already received critical accolades from noted film personality like Shyam Benegal, Shekhar Kapur and Anurag Kashyap. The movie received well in the international film festivals and it has been regarded as hidden gem.

Anand Gandhi has given some brilliant films and he has won several awards internationally.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya

Ramaiya Vastavaiya is a very anticipated movie. It is releasing on 19 July. Prabhudeva is directing this movie and there is lot of expectation from him.

He has already given very successful movies in Hindi, starting with Salman Khan’s ‘Wanted’. He followed this success with another super hit movie with Akshay Kumar in ‘Rowdy Rathore’. Prabhudeva was choreographer in Tamil and Telugu movies, then turn to acting doing some Tamil movies as main leading man. Later he turn to direction in 2005 with Telugu films.

He is now considered one of the most successful directors.
