Book Of Eli Movie Review

Book Of Eli is another movie in a long line of apocalyptic wastelands were a lone survivor, must walk his own path against those who are also out to survive in a hostile earth that is just hanging on by a thread with people getting robbed of the things we take for granted like boots and gloves. The movie stars the great actor Denzel Washington in this film which is almost a nod to those Mad Max movies in the 80's.

This movie quietly plods on as Eli played by Denzel Washington has a book that we later learn half way through the film is the last ever copy of the Bible and he is travelling west to take the book somewhere were it will be appreciated by people who have lost their faith and all that religious stuff that should die when the world is on the brink of extinction. Gary Oldman is the bad guy as he wants the book of the Bible for himself to spread his own words of faith and way of controlling people with this last copy of the Bible.

That's pretty much the story in a nutshell, although you are left feeling slightly empty after the film ends, especially when there's a twist that makes you wonder if Eli himself was actually blind all along and led by God himself to deliver the last copy of the Bible to a deserving city who is also trying to re-build other literary works in a library.

Good old Denzel does some fighting in this movie and slices and dices a few nasty scavengers who think they are tough and like any other movie they ain't! Although the strong messages with the film that deals with faith do annoy and the reliance on a Bible that possibly was the cause of the world going down the toilet in the first place.

So if post apocalyptic movies are your thing, then you may want to give this one a try, although it doesn't offer anything remotely new or original ( I'm still waiting for a big budget Fist of the North Star movie to come out!) But the movie does get one thing right, the color of the movie is like a dull grey, one that reminded me of The Road, another end of the world drama of father and son survival.
