Bottom: A Funny TV Comedy

Bottom is a british tv comedy show that ran for the most part on BBC2 back in the day and is now being repeated on Dave, a channel which is full of repeats, the show is still hilariously funny with Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson playing two friends who are the scum suckers of life itself and they know it with a brightest of bright hope that they will get a shag some day while they fester in their flat and think they are the hammersmith hard men but aren't.

The mad cap comedy is just great between the two and in particular Rik Mayalls character Ritchie is just too funny and over the top especially when Eddie and Ritchie hit each other over the head with frying pans and beat each other up, but also there are filthy moments when they are so skint and strapped for cash that they end up drinking anti freeze or some other substance to get pissed.

The Bottom Live shows that you can also find on DVD are great too as they were filmed live, they were very funny when they messed up their lines and things didn't go right, I wish they'd do new series of Bottom because I really loved the show because of it's hilarious flat mate antics, imagine if you will, two best friends who are grown up but not grown up and they get on each others nerves ut have to live together to pay the rent, they are almost like a married couple in a way and that's the hilarity of the situation.

Some of the best episodes included one were they tried to stop the gas man reading the meter, I wet myself laughing after that one and the one were they go trick or treating for some beer money and Rithcie carries with him an electric cattle prod that makes him shit himself every time uses it and he's wearing blue tights hahahahaha what a classic show, good job I bought them all on DVD awhile ago, so I don't have to watch the repeats, I can just watch it when I want.

I'll have to check that one out Steve, cos I've heard of it or seen an advert for it on tv somewhere!

@shaz I liked the young ones too, full of such a classic icon era as the 80's, but Bottom for me was more identifiable, because I've lived that sort of life for awhile and they made it look hilarious!

Cheers Susie!

Yes, I was thinking after that accident, maybe he couldn't exert himself as much as he used to, because making Bottom he used to get into a right sweat, especially in the live shows, tis a shame, oh well at least there is the series on DVD to watch of it and the live dvds, classic!

Hey wayne :) I would love to see them on the box again - or even a new series of Bottom - that was probably the funniest of all the stuff they made. Then again the Young Ones was hilarious too. I'm not sure that Rik Mayall fully recovered from an accident he had - motorbike accident I think? He was in a bad way. I absolutely loved him when he was Alan B'stard. Anyway I hope you're writing a whole series of hubs on their stuff!!

Bottom was great, haven't watched it for a few years, so I will have to get the DVD's. They did a series before bottom that was even more crazy, "Filthy, Rich And Catflap". Can't remember much about that one but I do remember laughing a lot.

I used to love Bottom, as well as anything else that Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson created - very funny! Shame we don't see them so much on TV now.
