British TV Shows: Misfits

Updated on October 12, 2011

Misfits

Misfits is a 6 part drama series that aired first in the UK on E4 and it is about 5 youths (There was 6 but he got killed!) are are doing community service for petty crimes and whilst doing so they get caught up in a storm and get struck by lightning in a superb slow motion black screen effect in which each of them gets hit by the lightning, this gives them superpowers to which they later find out in the first episode, except Nathan, he's just a funny dude.

Their probation worker also gets affected by the storm, but in a different way, he becomes an enraged nutter and tries to kill the five teens and that's when all five of them manage to get the upper hand and kill him first, but then they realise that they will have to bury both bodies, one the probation worker and the other youth that the probation worker killed with an axe, best if you watch the first episode to find out!

The opening episode just made me howl with laughter, especially when Kelly's character has a dog licking her face and she can hear the dogs thoughts, that made me chuckle lol! Like any series lately, this will be compared to Heroes, but it's in a different league that only us Brits can do, I suppose it can be compared to Hollyoaks but with lots of swearing and the occasional shag scene.

I can't wait for the second series as this just really made my day watching them on YouTube all in one go and to have Nathan finally finding out he does have a power after all right at the end of the 6th episode was ace, it's quite early to know the characters, but what we have seen in this BAFTA award winning TV show is a beginning of character development and how they must stick together as they know that others may have been affected by the freak storm and someone also knows the secret that they are trying hard to protect and that's that they killed their probation worker.

Things go from bad to worse though for our unlikely heroes as the series progresses.

A quick run down of the characters:-

Kelly - She has the power to read peoples thoughts.

Curtis - Has the power to turn back time.

Alisha - Gets people turned on if she touches them. (Hey it's an original power!)

Simon - Has the power to turn himself invisible.

Nathan - Finds out his power at the end of the 6th episode.

Other freaks so far in the series included an 80 year old women who could turn young again and vice versa, much to Nathans dismay - Watch episode 2.

A woman who could make people be good by the power of words.

And Nathans step dad roams the streets at night naked because he thinks he's a dog.

I loved this series and it really was funny in places as it was meant to be, if you haven't seen Misfits, then I suggest you watch it, if you are in the UK, you can watch it on YouTube, not sure for the rest of the world though.

Misfits Series 2

Series 2 was just more fun and even better than the first series and funnier than ever with Nathan's humour and some more superpowered loonies including one who can control milk with his lacto-kinesis power(Which was hilarious by the way!) and with a special Christmas episode which is the all important page turner for the 3rd series as it changes the dynamics of the TV show really, won't spoil it for you here though!

Series two of misfits brought a sense of imagination and creativity as the story isn't at all predictable as stuff happens were you think damn I didn't see that coming. It's really an enjoyable TV show that doesn't get too bogged down in it's own mythology too much like other series that have 20+ episodes.

Definitely looking forward to the 3rd series of this program.
