Give the Gift of "Tracks"

In 1998’s the Bruce box set, Tracks, made it a great gift for Springsteen fans. Tracks is a sprawling four-CD collection of non-album cuts with the first three discs featuring virtually no filler songs. This box set is still a great gift for all the Springsteen fans on your Christmas gift. It makes the top ten list of best romantic gifts.

Springsteen stated in the liner notes of the Promise that he wasn’t quite sure why some of the songs were left off his albums in the first place, and many of them have since made regular appearances in his live set songs like “Seaside Bar Song” and “Thundercrack" have now made it into his set songs when on tour.

Rock and Roll Essential Recording

The pain of a protracted legal battle with his former manager and the release of being allowed to record again after a three-year layoff are equally apparent from the piercing hard rock and harsh lyrical content of Darkness on the Edge of Town. Betrayal and hard work that comes to naught are the primary subjects on his mind here, evidenced by songs such as "Adam Raised a Cain," "Factory," and "Streets of Fire." Elsewhere, there are signs of hope or at least the possibility of outrunning your problems ("Racing in the Street," "The Promised Land," "Prove It All Night"). But mostly, these are songs about exorcising some serious demons, and from the sound of things, Springsteen's loud, lonesome howl and blistering guitar work went a long way toward making him whole again. This is angry art, made by someone pushed to his absolute limit and more than ready to push back. --Daniel Durchholz Amazon.com Editorial.

New Bruce Springsteen Music

I am a lover of Springsteen.and hearing some of these new releases of the Boss's work from back in the day brought me back to the same feeling of having new Bruce. Like a kid since the Promise was released on November 16, 2010, I have been listening over and over again to 3 of the new vintage works, One is Save My love. A Classic Springsteen feel . .this one brings me back to the same feeling I had the first time I heard "ThunderRoad".

Save My Love Lyrics

Bruce Springsteen’s Unreleased Track

Now there's something coming through the air
That softly reminds me
Tonight I'll park out on the hill
And wait until they find me

You're slipping through the ether
A voice is coming through
So keep me in your heart tonight
And I'll save my love for you

So turn up your radio and darling dial me in close
We're riding on the airwaves
And we're traveling coast to coast
Over river and highway
Your voice comes clear and true
Though we're far apart tonight
I'll save my love for you

Hold me in your arms and our doubts won't break us
If we open up our hearts love won't forsake us
Just let the music take us
And carry us home

There's a prayer coming through the air
And it's shot straight through my heart
Tearing open the evening sky and tearing me apart
Now I'll ride that signal down the line
I'm home again with you
So turn up your radio
And I'll save my love for you
Turn up your radio and I'll save my love for you
Tearing open the evening sky and tearing me apart
Now I'll ride that signal down the line
I'm home again with you
So turn up your radio
And I'll save my love for you
Turn up your radio and I'll save my love for you

London Calling - Bruce Springsteen

Captured in London at the Hard Rock Calling Festival on June 28, 2009 in HD, the 163-minute film documents 26 tracks of live Springsteen that begin in daylight and progress through a gorgeous sunset into night. Viewers are able to see Springsteen spontaneously directing the E Street Band and shaping the show as it evolves. The set list spans from 'Born To Run' era to 'Working On a Dream' and includes rare covers such as The Clash's "London Calling," Jimmy Cliff's "Trapped," The Young Rascals' "Good Lovin'," and Eddie Floyd's "Raise Your Hand." Springsteen also performs fan favorite "Hard Times (Come Again No More)," written by Stephen Foster in 1854. Brian Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem joins the band as a guest vocalist on Springsteen's own "No Surrender." GRAMMY and Emmy Award-winning producer and editor Thom Zimny and director Chris Hilson, both members of Springsteen's video team dating back over a decade, oversaw the film. Audio was mixed by Bob Clearmountain.

Jungleland a Springsteen Masterpiece

If you have never seen Bruce live do yourself a favor and treat yourself next time he comes to your town, And if you are lucky you can see him play Jungleland live, if not here is a video of him live at the Capital in New Jersey.

I read this from someone like me who has seen the Boss live and yes I have witnessed exactly what this fan had to say,

"God, to be young and at a Springsteen concert in Jersey back in the '70s again. He brought you into the show with him - you just disappeared into the music with him and the crowd.

It was like being held in God's hand.

When I'm on my deathbed, and they ask me about the best moments on my life, right after my marriage and the birth of my son, i'll say, "And I've been to Jungleland with Bruce."

Born to Run the Facts Behind the Legend

Springsteen performed Born To Run for the first time on May 9, 1974 when he opened for Bonnie Raitt at Harvard Square. Rock critic Jon Landau was at the show and wrote in Boston's Real Paper: "I saw rock and roll's future - and its name is Bruce Springsteen." Landau eventually became Springsteen's manager.

Springsteen knew he had to write more mature songs as he got older if he was going to extend his career. He explained in a 2005 interview with National Public Radio: "'Born To Run' was the song of my youth. Now I have to write something else. I became attracted to Country music and older Blues and Folk because they bring the same intensity to adult issues and adult problems. And I thought, this is a lifetime job for me. I want to write songs I can sing at that great advanced age of 40 years old."

In a season 5 episode of The Sopranos series 5, the character Christopher Moltisanti quotes the song, saying he was late because "The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive." This could be an in-joke from the writers as Steven Van Zandt who plays Silvio is in The E Street Band

Born To Run came at the crossroads of Springsteen's career. His first 2 albums sold poorly, and Columbia Records might have dropped him if he did not produce a hit.

Bruce Springsteen Lyrics

Honestly I think I know just about every word to every song that the Boss has written. As a fan of his since the 80's I spent many a night in college with the album cover and if we were lucky enough Springsteen had the lyrics on the back Born to Run and Greetings .."The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle" had none. Today with the internet and Bruce Springsteen's amazing website, you can type any song to search for the lyrics.

I'm a very casual Springsteen fan, but I've got to say this is a very thorough and enjoyable review of "The Boss."

For my favorite song, I picked 'For You' because of the excellent cover version by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. HOWEVER, I would have liked to have seen "Blinded By the Light" and "Spirits In the Night" as options.

Great tribute to Bruce, Wavegirl!

Rookie - seems we have a lot in common, as my all time ever, bestest, ,most favourite Springsteen song is... For You! Blinded, Manfied Man kinda owns the right to that song (even though Bruce wrote it) Spirit in The Night, I think is one of his best, I just take that one for granted! Thanks for your comment:)

Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town broke new ground for The Boss in 1978. A counterpoint to the operatic elegance of Born to Run, the album was an angry, raw record that burst forth after a three-year hiatus. Because of its darker tones, some might call Darkness a difficult album, but despite this, it's a cherished gem for many. Collecting stories and photos from hundreds of fans, The Light in Darkness celebrates this classic record, allowing readers to revisit the excitement of that moment when the needle found the grooves in that first cut and the thundering power of "Badlands" shook across the hi-fi for the very first time. Or the uninitiated, but soon-to-be-converted teenager, brought along by friends and finding salvation at one of the legendary three-plus hour concerts - shows that embodied all the manic fury of a revival meeting.
