Carole darlin'

Carole, darlin'

By Chuck RitenouR

Verse 1:

Carole, darlin' as the sun rose, I was in the desert

searchin' for those buttons that help a man find his way

my guide said don't touch them with the steel of my blade

as he shook his feathered rattles to chase evil spirits away.

Verse 2:

Carole, darlin' I could feel a warm breeze blowin'

and the sun shinin', feel its heat burn my face

I slept the afternoon away in a cave beyond the city

and awoke as the sun went down, down on another day

Chorus:

Was it a dream or am I asleep and now I am dreaming

safe in my bed so far away from that reality.

Was it a dream or am I asleep and now I am dreaming

you whispered, "it is what it is and will be what it will be."

Verse 3:

Carole darlin', I was a child caught up in the moment.

And I tossed aside all the love, the love you gave to me.

And standing in the twilight, am I still just a lonely child ?

or an old man dreaming  of those days and the way it used to be.

Chorus:

Was it a dream or am I asleep and now I am dreaming

safe in my bed so far away from that reality.

Was it a dream or am I asleep and now I am dreaming

you whispered, "it is what it is and will be what it will be."

the end.
