What a Shame

Sadly the huge 80's star Corey Haim has just past away today Wednesday March 10, 2010. I think everyone knows Corey had a huge drug addiction problem. He was apparently addicted to cocaine and valium. This seems to happen a lot with child stars. They get into the Hollywood lifestyle at such an early age and start partying and then can't break the addiction. I guess it doesn't surprise me at all. But, growing up in the 80's I had enjoyed his movies a lot. He was one of my favorite actors at the time. Him and Corey Feldman made an amazing team. So I do feel like it is such a shame and a waste of great talent. He was huge in the late 80's. But, for many stars fame comes fast and leaves faster. He stopped getting offers for good roles and their is a good chance it had to do with the drugs. He obviously didn't take it well and got depressed and just did more drugs to cope.

Corey Haim

Corey was born in Canada on December 23, 1971. His mother enrolled him in acting classes in hopes to help with being so shy. In Canada he had the role of Larry on the Edison Twins. But, in 1984 he got his first film role in Firstborn with Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker. In 1985 he starred in Steven King's Silver Bullet. In 1986 he starred in an awesome film Lucas and got great reviews and award nominations for his role. In the late 80's and early 90's is when he was plastered all over magazines and tv. He had a huge success in films like The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Dream Machine and Fast Getaway. He then ended up doing lots of direct to video movies that didn't do very well. I remember he also starred in a video game called Double Switch for the Sega CD. It was a pretty cool game being one of the very first two use real life actors. Then he appeared to have dropped off the planet from what I could tell.

Surprisingly that wasn't the case he has kept himself busy in the movie industry. His films just weren't the huge hits he made in the past. He started producing some of his own movies but, 1997 had to file for bankruptcy. Around 2000 he started starring in more direct to video movies and and his drug addiction became bigger than ever. After many times in and out of rehab he appeared to have kicked the habit in 2004 and moved back to Canada. Recently he had a reality show with Corey Feldman called the Two Corey's on A and E. The show did pretty well for two seasons. I recently watched Crank 2 High Voltage and was surprised to see him playing Randy in the film. He also got a role in Shark City.

No respect at the Oscars

Still no love and respect for Corey Haim. In the 80's he was the biggest actor around. And this year at the Oscars he was completely skipped over in the tribute video. It is terrible especially since he finally seemed to have turned his life around. He cleaned up his act and started making movies again and he was completely passed over. I for one am very disappointed in the people in charge. It can't be too hard to figure out what actors died the past year, is it? Haven't they ever heard of the internet? Peter Graves and Betty Garrett were also looked over this year. I guess Peter Graves having roles in over 70 movies wasn't quite enough.

This was so sad. I was obsessed with him as a teenager...picture of him on my walls and stuff. He really was one of the great ones. Thanks for the hub!

It's really sad, Lost Boys was and is a great movie. Unfortunately for them not all young stars are as strong as Drew Barrymore.

Indeed, it's a shame. There are so many children and people in third world country striving and struggling just to be alive, in contrast to this story. God bless his soul.

I was just watching a movie called "Blown Away" starring the 2 Coreys and Nicole Eggert. Shame that he didn't realize how loved he was.
