Daddy's Mandolin

verse 1:

Just before my Daddy died his doctor called me in

said boy better say good-bye his time is at an end

On the bed across his lap lay that old ragged case

Daddy said this all I have I've ever had and a tear ran down his face.

Chorus:

all my Daddy left me was his old mandolin

it belonged to his daddy before it belonged to him

Its been around this old world and made it back again

I can still hear them playing on the wind...

         whenever I play Daddy's mandolin.

verse 2:

One day last winter, I took it from its case

and as I strummed a melody,  tears ran down my face

then things began to happen guess I'll never understand

it seemed as if magic moved the fingers on my hands

notes were dancin' in the air in three part harmony

as if Daddy and his Daddy were there playing it with me.

and the song just went on and on like it didn't want to end

I can still hear them playing on the wind...

         whenever I play Daddy's mandolin.

Chorus:

all my Daddy left me was his old mandolin

it belonged to his daddy before it belonged to him

Its been around this old world and made it back again

I can still hear them playing on the wind...

         whenever I play Daddy's mandolin.

the end.
