Wow, a huge list, it's really sad. I'd dispute that some of these were directly caused by drugs - Steve Marriot died in a house fire, Kurt Cobain was never going to survive the shotgun blast - but as you say, drugs or alcohol probably had their part to play.

St.James:

As an interesting note, the Adkissons you mention about went by the stage name of Von Erich. For those interested...I have written a hub about the Von Erich family. It is riddled with tragedy.

Holy Canoli, You would think that they would know what causes death as the list goes on and on. It is sad as money does harm many.:(

jjrubio 7 years ago

That is very sad. It is unfortunate that so many people were hurting so much inside to reach out to such a killer. My dear friend died of an OD many years ago. I beleive from what i heard from his family that it was his first time and I heard he had been very depressed. I blame the people he was hanging out with for their bad influence. But initially he was the one who chose to do the drug which cost him his life. =( I HATE DRUGS

I check it daily to make sure I'm not... of course I'm not famous so I guess I'm looking in the wrong place once again.

A very sad list. I wanted to do one of these but you beat me to it! You've even got Lupe Velez, who died with her head in the . . . water. (P.S. You might want to boldface the names of the deceased.)

Was it that artists and celebrities could not handle their stress well?

It's so sad to learn about this fact. What good if being famous but get indulging into things that eventually kill them?

Don't forget Toto drummer Jeff Porcaro. Cocaine od while spraying inseticide in his garden. The insecticide caused a heart attack on a weak heart damaged by years of cocaine abuse.

I am not sure Natalie Wood deserves to be there, in fact an investigation into her death may be reopened and a book is expected out in weeks, disputing her cause of death. She was not an alcoholic or drug addict, she had been drinking wine and that doesn't automatically say that was the cause of her death, only drowning, with many unexplained bruises,we could all be on the list if someone decided to off us when we had one too many.

what about Rick James?

Fred Brennion 5 years ago

How about Tim Hovey? As a child star, he appeared in eight TV productions and seven movies in the 50's, including "The Private War of Major Benson" with Charleton Heston. I spent 2 months with him in Italy in 1967. Tim was later a road manager for the rock band, Grateful Dead. In 1989 he died of a suicidal drug overdose in California.

Sadly, a very long list of people whose deaths were preventable if only they could access the right kind of help...
