Many people are looking for a guitar that isn't to expensive, but has plenty of features and looks that set it apart from other budget guitars sold today. There really aren't that many of them, but Dean Guitars has created a guitar that is great for people who only have a few hundred to spend on an electric guitar. It comes with many features that more expensive guitars have and a few more as well.

The Features

I was originally shopping for a more expensive guitar when I came across the Dean Vendetta 1000. I didn't really like Dean Guitars in the first place. The V headstock on most of them just didn't appeal to me. But this one caught my eye due to it's unique flame maple top and the price that it carried. It also had a Floyd Rose Special on it, which really made the guitar that much more impressive.

For a start, the Dean Vendetta 1000 comes in either a red or black transparent finish, which shows the flame maple top underneath. The body is made from mahogany, which is the same wood that Gibson Les Pauls are made from. It has a Floyd Rose Special Tremolo on it, which holds up quite well and stays in tune great. The neck is a bolt on maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, and there are 24 frets. This gives you two full octaves and expands the playing potential of the guitar. It also has a push-pull coil split, which is really nice if you are playing rock or metal, then want to switch into a blues mode.

I usually judge quality based on this little piece of advice. "How it holds up in the store is how it will hold up in my home". If you walk into a guitar store, then you will see than some guitars just don't look very good at all. However, this one look better than some of the similar priced Epiphones and Schecters. There weren't any nicks or dents in the guitar body or neck, and the black hardware look shiny and bright.

After inspecting the guitar in the store, I took it and plugged it into a training amp to see how it played. The action on the guitar wasn't too bad, and you could set it lower if you want to, but messing with Floyd Rose wasn't something I wanted to do at the moment. Harmonics are really easy with this guitar, and dive bombs sound just as great. The pickups are Dean USA DMT designed pickups, and sound a lot like the passive EMG's in a few of the other guitars in the store.

All in all, if you are looking for a guitar that looks and plays great for a low cost, then this guitar is for you.
