Emmy Predictions 2011 (Drama Series)

And now, to conclude the list of potential nominees (which, again, will be announced on Thursday, July 18), we take a look at the dramas.

Unlike the comedy category, this one is packed with worthy titles. It also guarantees some new faces in certain fields since a few past winners (Breaking Bad, Damages, Lost) will be sitting this year out.

It's the last chance the Emmy voters have to recognize Friday Night Lights, an underdog of a show that, for once, actually has quite a little momentum behind it. Even if it manages to get in where it counts, there are still several other shows that will likely get overlooked.

One show that should really register with voters (but won't) comes from the mind of Lights' executive producer Jason Katims, Parenthood. A surprisingly well-done show in its first season, the series got better the second time around. All of the actors are Emmy-worthy, especially supporting ladies Monica Potter and Mae Whitman. The show has a great shot of earning a nomination in a guest acting field, but don't hold your breath for much more.

With a lot of new hot tickets also on the scene (Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, The Killing, The Walking Dead), it's going to be hard for those expecting their just desserts to earn what they're owed. But here's hoping Emmy voters throw in a few (welcome) surprises again this year and prove they actually watch quality primetime television. . .
