Free Music Sheets

One of the best sites for free piano music is found art 8Notes at http://www.8notes.com/piano/.

Free and Low-Cost Sheet Music for Piano

Below is a list of publishers that offer free or inexpensive downloads of sheet music for piano and voice parts, particularly choral arrangements. Some of these publishers offer only Classical Sheet Music as free, since the classics are in the public domain. However, several offer down loads for $4-5 or so. Some of them may also offer publishing services, if you would like to publish a composition of your own.

In addition to these links to Free Piano Sheet, further below are links to Sheet Music and Music Publisher Directories, with some free offerings.

  • Free Piano Sheet Music. Primo Tema offers a free sheet-music mailing list. Online there is a collection of classical sheet music that includes free piano and choral arrangements.
  • Free Hand Music. Inexpensive downloads of Piano/Vocal/Chords. Partnering with EMI Music Publishing for digital sheet music distribution.
  • Also try PianoStreet at http://www.pianoworld.com/freepianomusic.htm. They have over 3,000 sheets of free classical music for piano.

Reviews and Commercial Piano and Other Sheet Music

Some free items may be available from time to time from these sources:

  • Classical Piano Sheet Music from Active Musician. Classical Piano Sheet Music at very affordable prices.
  • KCU Links. This website offers midi files, printed and online material on piano composers and other resources. "One of the largest and most widely-used music publishing companies."
  • Lorenz Corporation: Music Publishers. Heritage Music Press. Educational piano music available -- From free and low cost to higher-priced works. Includes early childhood education and worship music.

  • Music Publishing on Find Articles. Anthology of Impressionistic Piano Music from Intermediate Level to Early thru Advanced Works by a number of composers. Fast & affordable book publishing service. A free eGuide can be downloaded from the site.
  • Visible Music-- Publishing, music gifts, sheet music, CDs. This company no longer offers free sheet music, but provides reasonably priced for-sale piano sheet music, orchestra and chamber music, brass, percussion, and other instruments. Affordable solo piano albums are also available.

Online and Off Line Sources for Free Music

EBAY and AMAZON have collections of sheet music, sheet music books and other learning materials for pianists and other musicians.

AMAZON has retail prices as well as auction-based prices and can be very affordable.

Another place to try is your local colleges and university music departments. Ours give sheet music and books away as they purchase new materials and have libraries full of sheet music that is inexpensive to copy or scan and email to yourself through their copy machines.

Used book stores also carry sheet music and piano books, and the public library may carry some as well.

Look on Craigslist.com for people giving away books and sheet music and for music publishers with affordable prices.

Another site to try is FREECYCLE, which is an all-giveaway site.

Great information! I used the Hanon exercises you mention in your book list when I was studying the Piano at school, college and university. They're really good and there are several volumes.

I think the music in the picture at the bottom is Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata - anyone else agree?

Thank you for making nice comments d and h! I enjoy many types of music but do not play piano - well I can do the right hand part, and sometimes the left hand, but not together. And I type like playing piano - crossing hands. LOL I play cornet, trumpet, french horn. :)

Great information here Patty. Piano player here and always looking for new music. One site I use regularly is musicnotes.com. I won't link in comments, but check it out sometime. For those who cannot transpose, the site will do it for you before you print out the sheet music you purchase and you can save it to your computer files also.

Thanks for this hub. I started playing the piano when I was 8 - that was 50 years ago. I always got so much joy from it and for some reason that I don't even know I haven't played at all in the last 8 or so years - even though I still have my original baby grand sitting in my living room. I think that if I had new music I might be inspired to start again. I think it was fate that brought me to your hub tonight!

Wow this is definitely bookmarked!! I have spent so many hours trying to find music for piano songs, it's not even funny!!

Also, another great resource for piano music is Youtube. The type of thing that I use is called a synthesia. It's not sheet music, but it is notes on a keyboard. I don't know how to fully explain it but it's really cool.

I learned He's a Pirate from Pirates of the Carribbean on it. It's great!! And the theme song to Halo. (Type in Youtube search He's a Pirate synthesia)
