Happy sick day!

Illness sometimes strikes when you least expect it. You are feeling great one day and the next day, it hits you hard. Sometimes you can sense you are about to get sick, but you don't do anything about it. This is especially the case if you've been feeling under the weather, but you are too busy to take some time out to rest.

One day, you can no longer ignore the fact that you can barely stand up because you are so ill. This is one of those moments in life when you are defeated and you must accept it. It is time to get in the bed and ignore everything else.

Just because you are stuck at home doesn't mean you can't enjoy this time. There are plenty of fun activities that will distract you from the fact that your throat is on fire or your stomach just took a turn for the worst. Join me as I discover all the fun things you can do while sick in bed.

DayQuil makes everything funny.

If you are looking for something to make you feel better and help distract you from the misery of being sick, take some DayQuil. Not only will it make you feel better, it makes every comedy funnier than ever before. For that matter, it tends to make movies that are not funny pretty hilarious, too.

Some of my favorite movies to watch while on DayQuil include Napoleon Dynamite, Grandma's Boy, and anything related to Mystery Science Theater 3000. Those movies were funny before taking the DayQuil, but cold medicine tends to make them even better.

You can play "What's this in my nose?"

Oh yes, this is a lovely game to play when you have a head cold. You never know the fun colors your runny nose may produce when you blow your nose. Will it be green, brown, or even clear? Who knows? It is like a science project, only more disturbing because certain colors might mean you have bigger problems than you originally thought.

Grossed out yet? Sorry. Hey, at least I didn't mention my idea for a similar game you can play when you have a stomach virus. Ewww!

Discover new music!

While laying in bed sick, I decided to go on Amazon's song list and see what everyone else is downloading. Not only did I confirm what I had long suspected - everyone on the planet loves Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me, Maybe, I also discovered some new favorite songs. If you haven't heard Clairy Browne & the Bangin' Rackettes' song Love Letter yet, you are totally missing out.

Laying around feeling sorry for yourself is the perfect time to listen to music you haven't heard for a while or you would have never discovered otherwise. So download some music and rock out while sneezing to the beat.

Prank call everyone you know.

When did you last have the chance to prank call anyone? It has been a while, hasn't it? I'll bet you've been so busy working all the time that you don't even have time to prank call friends and family members. Well, now that your voice sounds terrible due to whatever horrific illness you have, it is a great time to prank call everyone you know.

Take some time to come up with funny one-liners or a weird story to share with folks on the phone. If you are still on your DayQuil buzz, this should not be a challenge. Hey, days later when you are feeling better, everyone can tell you what kind of interesting topics you shared with them on the phone. Chances are, you won't remember any of this, so it will be helpful for your buddies to remind you.

Imagine what everyone is doing at work.

A fun game to play while sick in bed is imagining all the misery you are missing at work. Of course, sometimes this isn't too fun if you know your job will be horribly overwhelming when you return, so if that is the case, don't bother with this activity. However, if it brings you a lot of joy to know you won't be missing that terrible weekly meeting or you won't have to fight to use the microwave at noon, go ahead and let your imagination take you to work.

No one likes to be extremely sick, but everyone likes missing work. So just look on the bright side of all of this. Maybe your head feels like it is going to explode, but hey, at least you don't have to worry about answering all those work calls today.

Think about everyone you would like to contaminate.

While you are laying around in misery, imagine how fun it would be if you could contaminate the people that really get on your nerves. I mean, I am not encouraging you to invite over your enemies and cough on them. I am just saying it could be amusing to imagine some of the most annoying people in your life catching the flu, too. Seriously, if you have to suffer, why shouldn't your aunt that always nags you about your weight have to suffer as well?

Bug the crap out of people online.

Now that you have all this free time, don't just sit around and have a pity party. You should instead bug people online. I sure hope you have a laptop or a tablet. If you only have a desktop, I don't recommend dragging that to the bed so you can type on it. You'll just have to think about what you can do once you do have access to the computer again. If you do have a tablet, laptop, or any product that begins with an "i" in it's name, it is time to be an online nuisance.

You can go on Facebook and post annoying comments on everyone's page or put sad status updates on your profile. You can also create accounts on dating sites. If you are single, it can be hilarious, but also productive. I would recommend using a photo from a healthier day though... don't download any right now! Also, if you have instant messenger, you can communicate with all your unemployed friends. After all, they are so lonely when you are actually at work.

Of course, I believe one of the best ways to bug everyone online is to create a completely lame hub about being sick. If possible, share your story on Web Answers and in blogs, too. That is totally the best way to spend your time if you are not sleeping. Thank goodness I ordered this laptop a few weeks ago. I'd hate to actually rest while at home and sick.
