6 Funny Songs for Moms

Funny Songs for Mothers

For a while, lots of my friends were passing along to me the link to this Mom's Song done to the William Tell Overture. It is hilarious and I looked up the other videos of Anita Renfro and loved her humor. At the time, I was part of a MOPS (Mothers of Toddlers and Preschoolers) group that was brutally honest about all of the emotions, fears, and failings of our own motherhood journeys. Our conversations inspired the satirical mom songs I've written below.

The SUPERMOM Song

(sung to Supercalifrajalisticexpialadocious)

by VirginiaLynne

I’ve cleaned the floor
And made the beds
G
I’ve done the dishes too
A dinner’s in the crockpot
C
Cause tonight we’re having stew
My teeth are brushed
My hair is combed
F
My makeup is in place
My shoes and purse co-ordinate
G
I’m ready for the race

Chorus:
C G
OH, Supermom's a goal of mine all through it is precocious
C
Even though the sound of it is something quite ferocious
F
If you say it loud enough it always can engross us
G C
Super moms a goal of mine although it is atrocious

bridge: Oh, I'vegottabe one, I'vegottabe one, I'vegottabe one, I'vegottabe one (the hum dada littlie part)

Verse 2

My bathroom is immaculate
The floors and counters shine
Look into my cupboards
You’ll see nothing out of line
My furniture is dusted
My windows are all clean
They’re coming to take pictures
For Southern Living magazine. (chorus and bridge)

Verse 3

My children all get A’s in school
They are the teacher’s pets
At home, they are so quiet
I’ve not raised my voice yet
I’m all the moms you’ve never known
But always have admired
You’ve watched me from a distance now
And hoped to get inspired! (chorus and bridge)

Verse 4

I’m supermom, I’m supermom
Don’t you wish you were too?
My kids don’t argue, don’t get sick
No throw-up, blood or goo
Thank goodness they are plastic
Or I don’t know what I’d do
Just call this toll-free number
And you can have some too!
(Chorus)

Anita Renfro Motherhood in the Hood

Updated Mom Song

Anita Renfro made another mom song I just found and she's put this one to a rap tune. I love the way she incorporates all of the things we were told motherhood would be like, along with all of the T.V. images of moms growing up.

Mom Rhapsody Song

I found this wonderful parody of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. The lyrics are posted on the YouTube website. Great video production too!

Go Fish Guys with a Mom Song

I've seen the Go Fish Guys in concert three times and love the fact that they appreciate mothers (they have preschoolers too). In fact, I can't play this song too often because the lyrics go through my head all day. The one that revolves around the most, "the boss, the driver, the ultimate survivor!" and "if you work all day yet never get paid... you're a mom!"

Moms do Invisible Work

My husband also appreciates all I do and that makes being a mom easier. I call what mom's do "Invisible Work" because if you do it, people don't see it. The dishes are put away, the laundry isn't in the basket, there isn't dirt on the floor, the kids are quietly playing. However, if you don't do the work, that's the only time people notice!

Go Fish Mom Song

My Mother Song

Here is another one of my songs. This one came to me one day after hearing my kids yelling for me while I was secluded in that very private place, the bathroom. I have to admit that sometimes I DO hide in there. When the Charmin toilet paper company had a contest, I considered altering the lyrics to include Charmin and submitting it as a video, but I wasn't sure it suited my dignity as a professor of English.

I Am the Mother of 5 Children

(the tune of this one is sort of like that old song "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah, here I am at Camp Granada)

Chorus

G
I am the mother
D
Of five children
Where they are now
G
I am not certain

Am
I am hiding
D
In the bathroom
Am
And I don’t think I am coming out
D7
Too very soon

Verse 1

I have snacks here
M & Ms and Cheetos
And I grabbed the very last bag
Of Doritos

I have sodas
A coffee maker
a microwave

and refrigerator (chorus)

Verse 2

I have my laptop
Makeup and comb
Bible, Scrapbook tote
And my iPhone

I am relaxing
It’s very quiet
I may just take a nap
You really ought to try it (chorus)

Verse 3

I think I hear them
Calling out to me
Calling “Mom? Mom? Mom?
repeatedly

But I have earplugs
I think I’ll use them
And so I will avoid their
echolocation

Ending Chorus
I am the mother
Of five children
Where they are now
I am quite certain

I am hiding
In the bathroom
And I don’t think I am coming out
Too very soon.

Moms Have More Fun

Really, in spite of my tendency to hid in the bathroom sometimes (where the kids really do try to find me by "echo-locution" as my husband says--yelling, "mom....Mom....MOM....MOMOMOM"). I love being a mom and I'm very proud of all five of my kids. In fact, nothing in any career is more interesting or frightening than being a mother. Although I've taught kids from birth to college age, written grants and published academic papers, I like being a mom the best

In what other job can you be answering, "Why does that person have purple hair?" to one person, while discussing "Does God let animals into heaven" with another, and then stop everything (including the dinner you were cooking while you were talking) to run into the living room to clean up the various bodily fluids that did not end up where there were supposed to go. Crazy, fabulous, difficult and all-consuming. That's motherhood.

I love this hub. Your kids are all adorable and I quite believe you when you said your kids are absolutely perfect--I know, I know, they're in pictures and all. Hiding in the bathroom, now, that I can relate. I know of one mother who hides in the closet. As for me, i used to want to run away. You're an excellent mom and kudos on adopting kids.

Carter--you are so sweet! You may not say that if you actually heard my voice! But I figure that it is parody, right? Doesn't have to be beautiful!

urmilashukla--great name! I'm wondering how you got it? Thanks so much for reading my songs. I was very nervous about sharing them, so I sung them to myself right beforehand and just said, "What the heck, I think they are funny and maybe someone else will too." I have another one about breastfeeding that I'm going to have to post, but I'm wondering what my husband will say about that one! He has a whole sound studeio set up here at the house and I'm hoping he'll help me record these songs. I don't have a great voice, but that isn't as important in satire!

Peachpurple--I love that name! Yes, two of my kids are Chinese and they are adopted. We adopted them in 2002 and 2004 when adoptions were pretty easy to do. I've written a lot about our adoptions and actually spent the rest of the day I made this hub working on getting my adoption journal ready for Hubpages. If I remember, you are from Malaysia. I have never had a chance to go there, but have had friends from there. I like your hubs and all the activities you do with your children, by the way!

Lovely photos of your children. Why some of them looks like chinese? Did you adopt them or are they your neighbour kids? These children are cute and adorable. Lovely song. Thanks for sharing. Voted beautiful.
