Children should not be the deciding factor whether they get married. Love, emotions towards one another and companionship should be the reasons.

Marriage is contract in the business of life. It goes beyond love in all its phases from romance, taking care of kids together and companionship in later years. When there are children in the equation, then their feelings should be considered as well. Marriage is not just between two people. If it was then there is no need for such a social expression of the relationship between two people who are more than just friends.

In response, people should NOT get married based on pressure from ANYONE. A child's feelings CAN be CONSIDERED but SHOULD NOT be the deciding factor.

And marriage IS between two people. I don't see others taken responsibility for the divorce, nor do I see them willingly paying child support and alimony!

@Dexter I still agree, especially on the divorce part, no one wants to take responsibility for that, they just blame each other.

@Dexter and Cherry, in India, where I come from, marriage is not just between two people but two families. Usually the couple work for the welfare of all concerned and also receive support in their relationship from others. Hence, fewer chances of a divorce.

I now live in New Zealand and when I first came here I was struck to see that it was the children and old people who were left to fend for themselves and so did those in the ages between. Everyone seemed alone and had to do everything themselves. But after four years I have found that there are some lucky people who still have the support of their families whatever their age.

@Sushma Yes culture differences can play a big role in how we think about marriage
