Ten Awesome Dance Scenes

For those of you who are true technique aficionados I humbly apologize. These may not be the most exceptional examples of technique, but in the spirit of my other hub on the subject: Dance-Like-the-Whole-Worlds-Watching they made me want to dance or if not dance to feel warm and smile deep down or feel romantic or maybe they just brightened my day. Noticeably absent are the moonwalking Michael, the dirty dancing duo, the Saturday night feverish discos and the nutcracking Baryshnikov. Frankly, these ten just felt awesome to me in some way or another and I sincerely hope they brighten your day like they did mine.

Hi Suzi-Q, "Mia: I do believe Marsellus Wallace, my husband, your boss, told you to take ME out and do WHATEVER I WANTED. Now I wanna dance, I wanna win. I want that trophy, so dance good." I can see by your avatar you identify with Uma's character and you are right, it would have been a good one to include. I also wanted to include the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" dance scene in the restaurant but without the "sword fight" shootout "dance" in Wal-Mart it just wasn't complete. Thank you for visiting. =:)

Hello my friend, Hello. (You know I'm quoting Neil Diamond's song when I do that. =:)

I'm glad you enjoyed it--I hope you had time to watch the last video, it is pretty amazing.

These videos are wonderful, wonderful - got that from Lawrence Welk 100 years ago, but they really are! Thank you for including them in this hub.

Yenajeon, after reading your "Hello Kitty" hub, I knew you would love these. Thank you for stopping by and for the kind words. "Y'all come back, y'hear." =:)

Erinn, thank you for visiting and for the "awesome" rating. I sometimes think Shakespeare should have said: "All the world's a dance floor and if you don't dance once in a while, why are you here?" or something like that. =:)

Hi Doc, sorry I was so slow posting these but I am delighted you enjoyed them. Even if you didn't have time to play them all in one sitting--who would--they are worth revisiting at times when you need a smile or a lift. Good to see you. =:)

Really wonderful and I like your choices, just fine. You haven't lived until you've seen a brain-injured boy dance to the Happy Feet video. He must have watched that film fifty times before he tried. His mother laughed herself to hysteria. He walks very stiffly because of ligament problems but those penguins... Great fun hub.

Loved the last one, Winsome. I remember all those dance scenes - even the train one which I got as a forward. While Fred Astaire is easily my favourite - dates me, doesn't it? - another of my favourites is Gene Kelly.

Happy Feet is so cool- he's the best dancer besides Fred and Ginger. I used to watch musicals as a kid and I loved dance scenes. I am totally upset at evolution of dance getting so much credit, cause you or I could have done that. My favorite dance scene isn't much compared to what you have listed here, but I'm a romantic and I love the dance between Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr, in Hope Floats- it's when they fall in love. Awww....

WC, I'm laughing as I write this--I can see you doing a little tap dance--thanks for the appreciation, I'm happy you liked them, they make me smile. =:)

Hey JB, thanks for stopping by and even the comic in the last video passed on Macarena. However I think the ad firm for Heineken deserves a thumbs up:

Hi Shalini, yes I love all those old guys too. But Ferris on the parade float and that Zorro sword scene and those happy feet it just tickles my funny bone. I know most of these have been seen, but whenever you need a smile or a lift in your day, I guarantee any one of these will do it. Thank you for the visit. =:)

Izzy, I started to put my on evolution video on but I knew it wouldn't be complete without splicing in yours. Send it over and I'll put the editing crew on it. =:)

There is a tidbit of the Hope Floats scene in this nicely done montage:

I'll check out the video- thanks. Also, where is John Travolta in all this- you must acknowledge him in either Pulp Fiction (somebody mentioned) or Saturday Night Fever. I think that's the only one missing.

Winsome, I'm pretty certain you're right, Shakespeare must have said "All the world's a dance floor and if you don't dance once in a while, why are you here?" He just forgot to write it down, and this is a wonderfully delightful hub, but I do take exception with one thing, as do a couple of your other readers...you've failed to include anything from John Travolta...any dance scene from Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Pulp Fiction, I'm not picky, I'll leave it to you to choose. ~ Laura

Winsome profile image

Winsome 6 years ago from Southern California by way of Texas Author

Izzy and Laura, thank you for your Travolta fan mail, I had mentioned in the first paragraph that he was absent-- "saturday night feverish disco" but he is in the montage video. I just wanted to give some others a shot. =:)

Lizzy, nice to see you and yes the Mask is "Smokin'!" Thank you for stopping by. =:)

FP, you certainly could give that penguin a run for his money--you go girl! =:)

I re-read this and I missed "puttin on the RItz" before. I forgot about that- what a great dance scene!

yup you sure got my full attention. These are all great hoofers and the tunes were fantastic. I especially admired the undressing with the sword. The mark of the Z I think go all us hombres attention. What a beauty she is and they go to roll in the hay. LOL good one.

Winsome profile image

Winsome 6 years ago from Southern California by way of Texas Author

Hey Saddlerider, good to see you and yes you can see why I included a sword fight as a dance (I actually liked the choreography of that one more than their "dance") The look she gives him after his "I don't have time to give lessons now." is the best in the movie. You are right, ever since Salome danced for the head of John the Baptist, a beautiful girl and a dance can move a guy farther than we would like to admit. Thank you for the visit and the kind review. =:)

...I am so so sorry that I have never 'discovered' you until now ...this is one of my favorite hubs - because this hub makes me feel like dancing - such a labor of love and so full of joy and exuberance - I am thrilled with this. I am a master student of dance I should know - I absolutely adore classical ballet and modern dance too - and I have won a couple of dance contests in my day because you have danced all the way into my heart and mind with your dance project here!

Epigramman I am delighted you found me and especially glad I created these two dance hubs. I will have to say that I had a blast doing them--nothing illustrates the absolute joy of life like dance. Thank you for the warm comment. =:)

What a fantastic list! I think that including the sword fight from "The Mask of Zorro" was great! It was choreographed(and well done, indeed)! This did put a smile on my face. Thanks!

Hi Rusty, So glad you enjoyed it. There is a lot of chemistry in that scene. After seeing all these if a person doesn't want to dance they are working way too hard. =:)

I have just spent the most enjoyable two hours reading and watching these amazing videos. Talk about memories! I've loved dancing my whole life. I remember taking ballet and tap dancing lessons, dancing with my dad at weddings, and my high school dances. I even took ballroom dancing. Sadly, I cannot remember the last time I've gone dancing.

I loved the penguin and Judson was a hoot! I had my family sitting here watching these with me, as I danced in my seat LOL. The ballroom dances brought me back to the weddings I attended as a kid. My dad taught me the foxtrot, rhumba and tango. I also loved dancing to polkas with my granddad.

What an amazing feel good hub! Thanks so much. You had me laughing, smiling and dancing all at once.

PS: who was that masked man? I surely would love being surprised by him :)

Ha ha I came here to respond to your comment and just had to watch Happy Feet and the Swordfight Scene with Alejandro and Elena. This is a happy, good feeling collection and I come here too when I need a lift. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Keep dancing. =:)
