Ha Ji Won's Movie, Sector 7, looking at it in a different light
I don't intend to make a review of the movie
This is more of writing about Ha Ji Won, while waiting for her future movie "Korea" and her new drama "King 2 Hearts" and whatever personal plans she has in the future..
OK Like I said above, I don't intend to write a review on the movie because I believe movie reviews are done by professionals, not by someone like me who only watch certain movies for the following reasons:First, my favorite actress is in the lead role and second I read the book version therefore out of curiosity I will watch the movie version and point out the differences.
I am not a fan of 3D/ Sci-fic movie, but if my favorite actress is in that film, I will surely watch it at all costs. So obviously I have no idea about the perfect 3D movie that serves as parameters for some to judge whether a certain 3D movie is a trash, bad, or slightly better.
If I say Sector 7 movie is good, no one should question that because, that's how I see it, besides, I watch the movie to enjoy and to see my favorite actress in a different role, why should I stress myself to the imperfection of the movie? Was it Ha Jiwon's fault if her movie lacks technicalities? certainly not.....
I will write about Sector 7 without touching the technical part. I won't talk of the story as a whole because I knew too many had already done that part.... I guess it's time to write differently about it, or like what I stated in the title, "Looking at it in a different light".
Done before SEGA
I came to like Ha Jiwon through the drama Secret Garden, and it was in that drama where I first saw this "Sector 7" as GRI's new assignment. In reality, Sector 7 was done ahead of SEGA, in fact the shooting schedule of the two overlapped that SEGA production needed to fetch HJW from the last shooting day of Sector 7 to their first taping day or script reading whatever.
Sector 7 is HJW's life before Secret Garden, before Hyun Bin, and before the lasting effect of the drama to her fans from all over.... I guess it will be very interesting to see her in a film before she captured my heart and of course, somebody else's heart.
Boyish Portrayal
HJW was boyish both in Sector 7 and Secret Garden, but Hae Jun is more dominant than GRI. Hae Jun is tough and mean which made me feel a little uncomfortable while watching... I guess that's what they called "HJW" acting effect, when you too got immersed with her in her role...
I found her really tough in this scene when she tasted that thing from the glass container (not sure if it was a test tube or whatever) and when she found out it was not oil she spit it out and showed bad moods, she was always mean with the captain as if always ready to start a fight with him, and lastly in the scene where every one was showing their scar of honor, Hae Jun turned her back, put up her shirt and showed her audience (6 men) her scar. her boyfriend was quick enough to cover her up. But in fairness her body is beautiful...what a way to show off LOL..
Hae Jun's strong character was apparently highlighted in the movie.... she can decide, she can lead and even when fighting the monster, she was the one holding the gun while male characters were just behind her watching anxiously... at the end, she was able to kill the monster but she was the only survivor, any one in the same situation will definitely react the way she did (shouted while crying), it was a very traumatic experience to see friends and love ones got killed one by one...Ordinary human being will either faint or died of heart attack in the same situation.
Sector 7 is a story of Hae Jun, that's the reason why her character is more developed than the rest..
Last words for Sector 7
High expectations for the movie led to disappointment of some, but still the movie earned millions in South Korea and earned about 4M in China. I heard this will soon be shown in the Philippines and I am interested to watch this movie in a big screen with friends who also love HJW.
Sector 7 may not be perfect or did not reach a certain standard but still,it made history in Korean film industry and possibly will start a way for 3d film market in Korea... and We are just so proud that Ha Jiwon was chosen to play the lead character.
